2011 vintage back from bestway. Incredibly smooth and dangerously easy to drink. Aroma of plum and molasses. Most of that comes through to the flavor along with a roasty malt and burned bread malt flavor profile. Finish has a touch more malt with some roastiness an bittersweet coffee and chocolate. A bit of flavoring hops to round things out a bit. Another nice big beer from this fine brewery. GAManiac (1944) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAR 18, 2012
22oz bottle, 2012 vintage listed at 10% ABV. I’ll stick the rating here for the time being.
Pours deep mahnogany in the glass that shows through as a cleat copper when held up to light. There’s a small fizzy tan head that doesn’t stick around long.
Aroma is sugary sweet with caramalized sugar, toffee, and some overripe dark fruits.
Taste has a slight bitterness up front with at least a hint of hops which is more than I got in the nose. It’s still mostly about the caramelized sugars and malt sweetness with light vanilla and toffee notes.
Mouthfeel is slick and smooth with low carbonation and little bitterness. It’s probably a tad lighter bodied than most in the style.
A solid if unspectacular barleywine with little complexity but a nice sweet body with some fruity notes. beernbourbon (1596) - Glendale, Arizona, USA - MAR 1, 2012
Bottle shared by Peter at STL RB gathering. Pour is a deep clear copper with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavor are caramel malt, light brown sugar, a touch of bitterness, distant pumpkin, and a light alcohol burn. Finish does also have some resinous hoppy notes. Solid brew that hides 10.5% well. phaleslu (10462) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 21, 2012
22 oz. bottle via BA trade. 2011 vintage. Pours a clear, brown-hued amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of resinous, earthy hops, toffee, dried fruits, caramel malts, and maybe a hint of tobacco. Flavor of resinous hops, sweet malts, toasted brown sugar, crackers, and mild spice. Medium-bodied, with a resinous mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Very good barleywine, and the hop character has held up well in the bottle. jandd1983 (4447) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - FEB 20, 2012
Sampled at the StL RB gathering. It poured a red color with a small white head. The aroma was of brown sugar, molasses and roasted malt. The flavor was of brown sugar, alcohol, chocolate, molasses, maple syrup and vanilla. A very good Barley Wine.

Tasted from cool wax-dipped bottle at 2nd STL Ratebeer Gathering, thanks phaleslu. Poured a clear, dark reddish-brown color with off-white foam, long-lasting with excellent Belgian lace. About as beautiful as beer can look. Aromas of bread, caramelized brown sugar, refined hops, smooth alcohol. Rich malt flavor, toffee, brown bread, zesty and bitter hops. Tart bittersweet aftertaste. Delicious. kwoeltje (2233) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - FEB 18, 2012
(bottle - Sampled at STL RB Gathering) deep amber with tan head. Sweet toffee aroma. Flavor of sweet caramel malt, toffee, slightly atringent. vyvvy (6574) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - FEB 18, 2012
Sampled at STL RB Gathering - Pours tawny brown with a beige head. The aroma has toffee, heavy bread, lots of toast, caramel and somehow there is a char taste without it having a roasty malt taste. Medium / full body that’s a bit rough with lots of minor carbonation. The flavor starts with the aroma notes with spicy/earthy hops and stone fruit. The finish has a lot of spicy hoppiness and a bit of a bite. Good barley wine. bubbleflubber (2231) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - JAN 14, 2012
On draught at the brewery. Pours a deep amber into the glass, and has a wispy eggshell head that leaves spotty window soap lace. The nose is of caramel, with definitive floral notes. Caramel, astringent alcohol and thick piney bitters, diacetyl alcohol butter, whiskey, maple syrup and Candi Sugars mingle on the tongue. A nice warm, tingly butter finish ends the pull. And oily palate accompanies this complex barleywine. Nice, and a wonderful end to the flight! Ibrew2or3 (8748) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - DEC 1, 2011
Big thanks to SuperDave for sharing this. I didn’t even know this beer existed. Wow! Pours clear copper with amber core and tan head. The aroma offers up some roasted malts, apricot skins, some cherries, malts and raisins. The taste is a little on the rough side with malts, a bit of roasted malts and then pine hops, raisins, apricots and then pretty bold spicy hop like black licorice heading into the finish. Nice hoppy brew but a bit young and rough right now.
