22 oz. bottle from Bottle Revolution in Raleigh, NC (Blue Wax, 2012 Vintage). Dark brown cola-like pour with a frothy khaki head. Aroma of tangerine and a huge amount of caramel and brown sugar. Some noticeable whiskey on the nose as well. The whiskey and oak are certainly detected in the flavor as well as dark chocolate, vanilla, and just a touch of citrusy hops. Sherry-like mouthfeel. Sweeter than I normally like my barley wines but this manages to pull it off. An excellent beer. Onenote81 (1002) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - OCT 30, 2012
2012 Vintage. Coming down the 40, and I always make a point to stop by this brewpub for a bite and pint (or 2). I see this one on the shelf all the time at my local haunt, but for some reason I always avoid it. I’m just not a huge Barleywine guy I guess. This time though, I was in the mood so I finished my meal with this one.
Came out in a stemmed goblet. As with most "imperialized" brews, this was not a full pint, unfortunately. A ripe plum color with faint ruby edges. The cap of froth was short in size but not short-lived, as each sip left a perfect ring clinging to the glass. Rich aromas of dark fruits, booze, and some light earthy notes. Clean mouthfeel, rich and deep, envelopes the palate. Subtle carbonation lightens this one up just a smidge.
Great decadent fruity flavors of fig, plum, and raisin. The alcohol add just enough heat to this, but in no way overpowers. Sweet candy-like flavors on the back end keep this balanced, and tone down the richness of it a bit. Bitterness is present, but again, subtlety is king. Definitely sets itself apart from the Americanized versions of this style. This was rich, tasty, and ever so easy to drink. I think I need to pull the trigger on some bottles now.

Bomber, 2013 vintage, thanks Russ! Boozy dark fruit aroma with caramel and hops in the background. Pours dark caramel brown with a thin tan head and very little lacing. Starts with sweet dark fruit including raisin as well as quite a bit of sweet caramel. Finishes smooth but slightly dry with some hops joining the party with a nice alcohol burn at the end. Excellent barleywine! hman43 (1894) - Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA - JAN 3, 2014
This was picked up at Triangle Wine in Southern Pines. The seal is Royal Blue, but the stamp on the bottle says 2013. It has a sweet aroma with a hint of raisin, figs, roasted malts. There is minimal head. It is a very dark brown with some clouding in the light. The taste definitely is warming with brown sugar, biscuit, roasted, raisin with a bit of sweetness to it. The alcohol taste is there, but not overpowering as with some other in this category. This is very good. slowrunner77 (13206) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 27, 2014
same label, but this batch was 9.6%. nice to have a flavorful, robusy barleywine that’s not 11-15%. well balanced abd excellent all around. a little earthy malt with a healthy dose of toffee and caramel. floral hops and pleasantly bittersweet in the finish. Well done."

Bomber. Slightly hazy maroon color with a pretty large white head. Strong aroma of vanilla, wood, and alcohol. It doesn’t say so in the description, but it sure smells like it’s spent some time in a barrel. Anyway, the flavor is more of the same with some maple syrup and bourbon. Fairly long finish, but not overly hot for the strength. Excellent brew that warmed me right up. Rrauth (1196) - North Carolina, USA - JAN 30, 2014
