Bottle from JCB. Thanks! Deep garnet pour with fomay tan head. Nose is sticky sweet bourbon and brown sugar with modest amounts of raisin-like dark fruit and vanilla. Flavor is gentle bourbon, light coconut and oak, toffee, brown sugar, raisin, faint vanilla, and at the end, a tinge of roasted malt. Lightly dry and roasty finish with a touch of nuttiness. Residual tangy dark fruit. Palate seems a bit on the thin side. Honestly, other than that, this is a solid brew. Damico (3146) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 16, 2013
Pours thick unclear dark chestnut amber with a darker tan head. Aroma brings some warming brown sugar and a tad of vanilla with the malts. Flavors bring caramel and sweet malts, muting the overbearing resin is the barrels so nicely without bringing any booze. drowland (9186) - Georgia, USA - APR 13, 2013
During RBWG 2013. Deep amber brown pour with a small tan head. Rich BA aroma with fudge, coconut, oak, etc. on top of a rich, somewhat sweet base - caramel, a wisp of char/smoke, and some dark fruits. Sweet BA flavor with wood, whiskey, fudge, on top of a somewhat sweet base already - caramel, etc. Not bad. Drake (14332) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 9, 2013
Bomber from Appalachian Vintner, Asheville. Pours a dark hazy bronze color with a thin tan head. Decent head retention. Big whisky aroma, booze, spicy wood, raisin and toffee. The taste is wood, raisin, whisky, toffee, booze, green apple, burnt sugar, toffee. Thin-medium bodied. Decent, but could use a lighter touch on the wood aging. phaleslu (10907) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 8, 2013
22 oz. bottle via STLHops trade. Thanks again, Jeremy! Best by February 2013. Oh well. I just got it this week. Pours a deep, hazy, almost muddy mahogany chestnut brown color with a small beige head that settles into a ring and a few spots. Aroma is barrel-forward; vanilla, oak, coconut, caramel, toasted chocolate, brown sugar, and smooth bourbon. Not much Scotch ale character in comparison to the barrel notes but it smells great. The flavor drops off a bit; quick bourbon barrel notes initially, with bourbon, oak, caramel, vanilla, and coconut, giving way to earth, leaves, and chocolate. The body has thinned; smooth and almost watery, with minimal carbonation. Some lingering booze but not much. Had the body held up better and flavor popped more, this would be awesome. As it stands, it’s still pretty damn good, mostly held up by the nose.

Charred oak and walnut nose. Clear chestnut, thin yellow head. Flavor is all whiskey. Medium body, slightly boozy but tolerable. Lacks character. Sikash (274) - North Carolina, USA - MAR 25, 2013
Poured from tap at city beverage. Pours a nice dark hazy brown color with an off white head that doesn’t last too long. Significant bourbon nose with notes of vanilla, malt, and oak. Flavor is significant of bourbon and its hard to pick out some of the other flavors. Solid alcohol finish. LtDan (1808) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - MAR 22, 2013
Appearance: Pours dark red with no head even after swirling.b3shine (9281) - Indiana, USA - MAR 7, 2013
Aroma: Strawberry rhubarb pie. Brown sugar.
Taste: Caramel, sweet bramble, cocoa, very light, faint spicy hops.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied. Modest carbonation.
Overall: Very tasty, enjoyable, but I wasn’t able to pick out any barrel character. Kind of reminded me of Hoppin’ Frog Barrel Aged Frosted Frog…minus the barrel.
Bomber to snifter (thanks John). Looks solid; a cloudy amberish brownish-black with very little carbonation and razor-thin lacing. Smells solid too; sweet and boozy. Tastes like it smells with a mild coconut presence and a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Good beer. drewbeerme (3921) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 6, 2013
Bottle from kan. Pours dark brown/black with no head. Aroma has charcoal, vanilla, dark fruit. Flavors sharp charcoal notes, figs and vanilla, touch vinous, long boozy watered down bourbon notes and charcoal. Thin to medium body. I can’t imagine this was blended since the barrel is so charcoal forward. Really solid base, just needs either a better barrel or some blending.
