COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Event Horizon Imperial Stout is an incredibly rich and luxurious beer brewed with ten malts, local honey, and four American hop varietals before and extended aging in oak bourbon barrels. The result is a beer with many layers of complexity. As the name implies, with one sip you will be unable to turn back. This 2010 special release will age well for years to come, or enjoy now in good company. Cheers!

i ventured far into the deep space of Durham NC to find this 22oz bottle of madness. It pours out midnight black with a very little beige head. The aroma is a wonderful mixture of bourbon, oak, vanilla, and honey. Its so good once it hits your lips. Nice woody bourbon taste mixed with sweet honey. And the aftertaste is killer awesome as well. Sweet vanilla woody bourbon just stays on your tongue. My good lord. In my opinion, if you find this beer get it!

From the 12/2013 3R6P gathering +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small foamy dark brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was strong coconut, vanilla, rum, dark fruits, strong malts, vanilla, marshmallow and more coconut. I kept a bit of this aside just to keep nosing throughout the night. Marvelous aroma! The flavor was strong coconut, chocolate, vanilla, hot pepper, marshmallow and rum. Very long finish of coconut, rum, vanilla and chocolate. Thick and syrupy body. Marvelous!

Poured inky black with a deep brown head. Aroma is of bourbon and slight chocolate. Taste is heavy malt, alcohol, chocolate, oak wood and honey finish. Carbonated enough to please the palate. Top 5 in my book for stouts and top 10 in overall beera.

Pours coffee brown with a thin but serviceable dark tan head. Aroma features dizzying roast malt, chocolate, coffee, molasses and caramel notes. Flavor drags you in with molasses, licorice, roast malt, coffee, woody and semi-sweet chocolate tones. Whoa, no surprise this is high gravity - ha ha ha! Youll think youre on the USS Cygnus! (Esoteric movie reference.) Thick, viscous mouthfeel has some good fizz. Go beyond the event horizon!

2011 bottle. Black pour, brown head. Nose is rich cocoa, roasted malts, honey. Taste is decadent chocolate cake drizzled with honey. Medium-full smooth mouthfeel. Was not expecting this to be so good.

Simply a sensational barrel aged beer. Pours a beautiful ink black with thick chocolate head. Aromas are big sweet bourbon, molasses, honey, and vanilla. Beautifully sweet and balanced. Sweet bourbon, oak, honey, vanilla, and mild heat from the alcohol. Awesome stuff.

Vintage bomber of about three years old at t Velootje in Ghent, thanks Lieven. Creamy, dense, pale brownish beige head, thin and dissolving in the middle but retaining around the edge; black robe with chestnut brown edges, only visible for about one millimeter off the edge. Lovely, rich bouquet of hot chocolate sauce, cappuccino, espresso beans, bourbon, vanilla, dry oak, blackberry jam, ruby port, mocha ice cream, hazelnuts, blood iron, soy sauce, beef stock cubes, madera. Clean, dark fruity onset, brambleberries, lots of candied date flavors enhanced by the added honey, soy sauce-like umami accent but subtle, soft carbo, thick oily mouthfeel. The mouth cavity is soon lined by lovely nutty and chocolatey black malt sweetness turning to toasted bitter and eventually roasted coffee, but in a soft and elegant way; long, beautifully bittersweet finish with vanilla-like oak tannins, a peppery hop bitter punch, some light retronasal maderisation and eventually a lot of heating, very explicitly bourbon-like, but not wry alcohol. Unexpectedly beautiful stout, graciously aged and in perfect balance, this is clearly a masterpiece of international allure.
