The Event Horizon Imperial Stout is an incredibly rich and luxurious beer brewed with ten malts, local honey, and four American hop varietals before and extended aging in oak bourbon barrels. The result is a beer with many layers of complexity. As the name implies, with one sip you will be unable to turn back. This 2010 special release will age well for years to come, or enjoy now in good company. Cheers!

2010 bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a tan head. Aroma is of bourbon, vanilla oak, bourbon soaked dark fruits, roasted malt, dark roast coffee, fudgey chocolate notes and some honey nose. Flavor follows the nose with lots of bourbon, yet it is still quite balanced, I get roasted malt, fudgey chocolate and honey notes, vanilla, oak, coffee and bourbon soaked dark fruits. The body is full with a nice creamy mouth feel. Overall a great Imperial Stout! Thanks to Peter for sharing!

22 oz bottle, 2014 vintage. Shared with ebone1988 and Gus. The pour is a nice black with a small ring of lighter brown head and a couple spots of lace. The aroma is sweet and licorice heavy. There is a light honey and a great chocolate fudginess. There is a hint of bourbon barrel and a hint of vanilla. The flavor is a little strange. The chocolate and fudgy bourbon brings a little vanilla and a strong oak. It’s interesting. The honey does weird it up a little. The mouth feel is pretty heavy bodied with a light sharpness a soft carbonation. This is pretty damn good. There is a boozy chocolate finish and it’s not too shabby. I’m a fan.

Bottle shared with koleminer20 and Gus for the ’Merca turns 241 share. 2014 vintage. Aroma is roasted malt, dark fruit, licorice, barrel, bourbon, excellent. Appearance is black, brown head, poured thickish. Taste is licorice, roasted malt, barrel, bourbon, bready, sweet, like eating roasty Good N Plenty candy. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy body, light carbonation, licorice soaked bourbon aftertaste. Overall, this one is excellent.

appearance: thick near black, with a dense creamy tan head. aroma: assertive nose full of malts--dark chocolate, molasses, caramel; there’s an umami note, along with coffee and some dark fruits. taste: dark chocolate and molasses right up front; soy sauce and coffee next; under that is some deep plummy notes, very subtle; finally a bit of caramel, vanilla, and just a hint of bourbon. finish: smooth, chewy palate; alcohol very well-hidden. notes: Big palate, big flavors, great aroma. Very solid. Bottle courtesy of Josh and Jean.

Vintage bomber of about three years old at ’t Velootje in Ghent, thanks Lieven. Creamy, dense, pale brownish beige head, thin and dissolving in the middle but retaining around the edge; black robe with chestnut brown edges, only visible for about one millimeter off the edge. Lovely, rich bouquet of hot chocolate sauce, cappuccino, espresso beans, bourbon, vanilla, dry oak, blackberry jam, ruby port, mocha ice cream, hazelnuts, ’blood’ iron, soy sauce, beef stock cubes, madera. Clean, ’dark’ fruity onset, brambleberries, lots of candied date flavors enhanced by the added honey, soy sauce-like umami accent but subtle, soft carbo, thick oily mouthfeel. The mouth cavity is soon lined by lovely nutty and chocolatey ’black’ malt sweetness turning to toasted bitter and eventually roasted coffee, but in a soft and elegant way; long, beautifully bittersweet finish with vanilla-like oak tannins, a peppery hop bitter punch, some light retronasal maderisation and eventually a lot of heating, very explicitly bourbon-like, but not wry alcohol. Unexpectedly beautiful stout, graciously aged and in perfect balance, this is clearly a masterpiece of international allure.

Dark black. Super thick. Lots of malt. Kinda bitter like nibs. Bourbon but not boozy. Quite complex.

Pours ultra dark brown, with a nice tan head. Aroma of bourbon, malt and wood. Taste is rich, malty, and tastes of wood aged whiskey. A very nice complex BA imperial stout. Thumbs up!

2013 Bottle. Ar: Deep burnt caramel and dark fruit, raisin and currant; dark fruit, some oxidized caramel malt; a bit of burnt caramel. Ap: Deep black, opaque; small mocha head with a very thin ring of foam. T: Lots of dark fruit, oxidized flavor; toffee and burnt caramel; cherry, currant, a bit of raisin. P: Medium-full body with medium carbonation; finish is medium. O: Nice level of sweetness and body, but the dark fruit flavors are very oxidized; heavy caramel flavor and lack of roast flavor.
