UPDATED: NOV 29, 2008 (10/11/08) Bottle drank in my hostel room in Chicago. Opaque black with medium bubbly light-brown head that falls rather quick. Aroma of heavily roasted malt, a bit chocolate, light smokiness, some ground coffee notes and a bit of alcohol. Sweet roasty flavor with light herbal notes, some fruitiness, a bit of nutty notes, some coffee, acidic malt hints and some alcohol. Finishes dry. Good but not as good as I was hoping. A very tasty porter!
Bottle (which has crossed the Atlantic twice), shared @Bruces. It pours dark brown with a medium tan head. The nose is earth, roasted malt, caramel, toast, bubblegum, faint smoke and coffee. The taste is soft, roasty, smooth, ashy, salted caramel, toast, touch of oxidation, umami aspect, cocoa powder and earth with a dry, roasty finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Smooth, well balanced and very drinkable indeed. Great stuff. Tmoney99 (14365) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 16, 2007
Bottle from River’s Bend. Pours black color with a large frothy brown head that was lasting with excellent lacing. Heavy toasted dark chocolate, coffee and woody malt aroma. Medium to full body with a thick smooth texture. Heavy roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a standout porter. Deep dark porter with a thick dark moka head. A nice funky aroma of chocolate, cold coffee, and cast iron post. In mouth, a bitter herbal chocolate, very intense, with light peated notes, cold coffee. Rich and enticing. A superb porter. Bieropholie import BB Dec. 2006. Tasted with Probstk, May 26 2007. 500 mL bottle courtesy of jdubFL. Thanks Justin! 1800th rating. Hurrah. Pours nearly pitch black with a dark brown, medium head. Good head retention and decent lacing. Aroma is beautiful roasted malts with chocolate, coffee and a bit of smokiness. Vanilla, toffee and leather as well. Taste is roasted malts, coffee and smoke. Light bitterness in the finish. Full bodied and quite creamy. Damn good beer. Christian (13601) - Odense, DENMARK - MAR 16, 2006

Black with a beautiful and lasting pillow of light brown head. Roast malt dominates the aroma with some chocolate and the faintest hint of metal. Tasted next to a 2007, bottled porter, the flavour lacks quite a bit of the character it used to have. Thinner, more straightforward roast flavour, dry and without the fruitiness that used to make it such a perfect beer.
Original rating, way back: Rich roast malt aroma, with some chocolate and a hint of coffee. Perfectly balanced flavour, dry with some (dark, dried) fruity sweetness and lots of bitter, roast notes. Full bodied and despite the intensity, very easy to drink.
