I liked this one at first - up front, there is a nice crispness to the malt profile, and a bright fruitiness from the hops - then, through the middle, it starts to get a bit sweet, with notes of fruit, toffee, treacle - not bad, but getting a little less enjoyable - then, the alcohol comes on very strong, especially in the finish, leaving a lightly medicinal notes - starts strong, but disappoints in the end. snoworsummer (5780) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - JAN 6, 2013

Brown amber, light head and lacing. Nose of caramel, nice and rich, some hops. It has that vegetal garbagey smell though. The flavor is a little sweet; fruity raisin

Candied, dark malty, acidic, moderately sweet. Finishes bitter and slightly salty. Some woodiness, some soapiness. Slightly chalky finish, which is bitter, but still acidic. Aroma was faint. Pour yields a dark brown brew that’s not at all transparent. Thin tan head with a bit of lacing. The nose brings some semi-sweet malt as well as a bit of caramel, brown sugar, and some dry earth. Almost woody. The taste is along similar lines with a bit of sweetness coming through from the malt, but then the backend is comprised of an earthy, woody presence that is oddly bitter and presents itself as almost tannic in nature. Drinkability suffers a bit because of this, though overall it wasn’t bad.

Pours a dark amber with a medium lt tan head. Aroma has a cheap roasty/nuttiness and a hint of burnt toffee. Flavor follows suit but steps up the toffee and adds that earthy bitterness for balance...slight booziness...muddled. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with a dry earthy/burnt toffee finish.
