Excellent beer! Had a cola brown color, with nice white foamy head. Flavor had a great balance of maltiness and hops, with a colorful sweetness(can’t put my finger on what type of sweetness). Another winner from Oliver! Braudog (6789) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - JUN 13, 2003
UPDATED: APR 29, 2012 A brown beer with a nice toffee head. Wonderfully smooth, sweet, nutty and malty at the same time, with just the right level of hoppiness. Travlr (25500) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - MAR 2, 2011
A "northern European lunch beer?" Is that anew style? Is it OK that I drink it at dinner time? This one was full bodied, had an aroma of smoky nuts, and tasted like burnt caramel and light spice. Nice. Holdwine (1235) - Beertimore, Maryland, USA - MAR 17, 2005
Quite nice. Dark red pour with a good toffee malt nose. Slight carbonation with a very complex and slightly sweet malt. tsarman (794) - Northern, New Jersey, USA - JUN 5, 2005
Delicious beer. Very sweet and malty, though it is well balanced. One of my first in the style, but I enjoyed it.

Gentlier, both in terms of alcohol and flavor intensity, than most beers of the style. Mild yet tasty... Mostly malty with hints of hops. A good variety of flavors, but all mild and subdued compared to some of the wildier beers. A good ale to drink with lunch, or to introduce a friend to the world beyond lager. obxdude10 (2358) - Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 16, 2002
Dark red in color, didn't keep a good head, very smooth, very strong malty flavor, strong aftertaste as well

Cask - Pratt St (ABV 6.8%). Soft rustic fig and raisin aromas warm to swirls of cherry toffee and yeast throughout. Flavor is similar with a musty dark fruit component riding a soft wave of caramel yeast. Touch of earthy hops in the background keeps most of the sweetness in check. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Nicely done... guzzler67 (1696) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - JAN 21, 2004
Earthy, malty aroma. Appearance was a dark bronze with a small head. Roasted malt taste with some sweetness paired with a nice bit of fruitiness. Medium-bodied with a malty, well rounded flavor. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - MAY 14, 2006
(Draught, The Wharf Rat) Pours an amber-brown body with a moderate creamy beige head. Aroma of toasted and sweet malts. Flavor of toasted malt, mild hops, and fruitiness with a somewhat bitter finish. Ehglish bitter spin on a biere de garde.
