Waiting anxiously. Waiting silently. Somebody is at the door. Knocking. Empty red bag. No, there’s something inside the bag. It’s a bottle. No, it’s a beer, it’s Punakuub. Is that all, Santa? Is this the best you can offer for Christmas? No wonder you ran away. Christos (5938) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - JAN 24, 2017
(Õllenaut Punakuub) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 6.5%
Brown coloured body, murky, with a small thin and off-white head on top, disappearing quickly.
Aroma of caramel, cinnamon, spices, cedar.
Taste also of spices, caramel, pine needles on the finish and a good bitterness.
Thin body, low carbonation.

75cl bottle as a gift. Pours slightly hazy dark amber with a modest, off-white head. Malty and fairly spicy aroma with caramel, fruits and dried fruits. Medium sweet with medium flavour intensity and a fairly bitter and somewhat spicy finish. Not a favourite, but fairly enjoyable. Unde (1215) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 28, 2016
Brown colour with small head going to the sides of the glass. Lacing is quite nice looking. Aroma has malts, some spices, anise. Taste has malty notes, spices, surprisingly bitter after taste. Medium body and high carbonation. Punkero (485) - FINLAND - MAY 28, 2016
UPDATED: MAY 28, 2016 Malty aroma. Yeasty. Tasty and spiky. Distant dark fruits. Starts that way anyway. Some bitterness. Long aftertaste. Meh. More taste with bottom wonders poured in. Kauge (2133) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - APR 9, 2016
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2016 Tap at Drink. Hazy copper with nicely retaining and lacing off-white head. The aroma.... interesting, and not sure if in a good or bad way... christmasy spiciness but not gingerbread or anything, more like the seasoning you use when pickling pumpkin. Nelk? Slight vinegary-balsamic-acidic notes. Tastes sourish, bitterish, tart berries and caramel. Mildly carbonated, nice strong body, very dry on the palate. Doesn’t suck at all. Pretty nice in fact. Was afraid it’d be like liquid Christmas but it’s not. Anyway I normally don’t enjoy stuff like this so I must be in a good mood for giving it 3.5...
Edit: bottle; batch 234; BB 16.09.2017. Aroma and flavour seem very similar, as do palate. Maybe just a tad bit more Christmasy than on tap more than half a year ago (that was probably an earlier batch). Pretty nice for a spiced-up ale. The initial score of 3.5 is fair enough.
