Poured from bottle. Can’t believe I’ve never rated this.
AROMA - lovely caramel, spice and cinnamon.
APPEARANCE - copper (what else) with lacing.
TASTE - burnt caramel, toasted malt, pepper hops, hint of raisin.
PALATE - malty, slightly watery but lots of flavor.
OVERALL - I would buy it again. nimbleprop (8761) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - APR 17, 2017
Sampled at CBC, pours a dark orange spitty, white head. Nose has malt, pennies, cracker, bread. Flavor is bread, malt, cracker, metal. Watery finish. puboflyons (3501) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - APR 10, 2017
On tap at the Charlotte NC Airport and part of a North Carolina beer flight. Lovely red-amber-copper pour. Small off-white head. Big toasted, dark bread sweetness in those malts with low earthy hop profile. Light but smooth body. Same sweet caramel toasted malt flavor with mild bitterness to finish. Not sure why the ratings are so low. I think it was entirely drinkable.

An aroma of malt and a hint of hops. Pours a copper color with a lasting white head. Taste of malt with notes of hazelnut, watery feel with a bitter finish. 60minuteman (1765) - West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 8, 2017
Draft at Charlotte Airport. Great amber beer. Prickly and spicy. Lots of floral and good hop malt balance. One of the easiest drinking alts I’ve had. BeerdedDave (1875) - Beckley, USA - NOV 18, 2016
copper color; not much of an aroma; bready malt flavor; fairly well balanced with bitter, noble hop flavor; light caramel notes MrTipple (6471) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 21, 2016
Intense, toasted dark malts, biscuit. Clear brown, medium, frothy, white head. Light sweet, toasted grain malts coming up again, biscuit, caramel, medium carbonation, medium bodied. OK Altbier, quite quaffable but nothing extraordinary. Keg at Admiral’s Club, Charlotte, NC. chinchill (5321) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 9, 2016
12 oz bottle from the Bulldog bottle shop near the brewery, served in a pint glass.
Copper (what else) colored with a good head and foamy lacing. Excellent clarity.
Aroma: sweet and medium roasted grains; faint hops.
Flavor: follows the aroma but with more obvious hops adding some spicy notes and a balancing bitterness.
Feel: smooth and slick; medium body and near medium carbonation.
Overall: outstanding version of the style; certainly among the best I’ve ever had.
