Pours very dark brown with small tan head. Strong coffee aroma. Tastes mostly of coffee maybe a little bitter dark chocolate but not much. Was expecting a little sweetness and got a little bitterness. Not bad, an average to slightly above average stout. mcberko (19803) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 12, 2011
750mL bottle, pours black with a substantial tan head. Aroma of bitter dark cocoa, slight espresso and some roasted malts. The mildly bitter dark cocoa is what jumps out to the palate, with a light (for a stout) body, and a bitter dark cocoa finish. Quite nice. johnnnniee (4457) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 23, 2011
Review from notes, sampled 1/2/2008
Pours a dark brown with a large head that dissipates quickly. Smell is of chocolate, some coffee, and a fruity smell from the yeast. Taste is more of the chocolate and coffee with a funk in the finish that I found unpleasant. I think it was fruity esters from the yeast and while I might enjoy that in another beer, it seemed out of place here. Mouthfeel was a bit on the thin side, carbonation on the high side. I had high hopes for this one, but I didn’t really enjoy this it.

Chocolate + beer= Willie Wonka’s Factory if it was run by Charlie Sheen. I enjoyed this beer, and its rich dark color. Its chocolatey taste and aroma was really enticing. Very enjoyable. hbmason (1086) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - APR 16, 2011
750 ml bottle. Black stout with a nice head. Nice belgian taste. Chocolate notes but would perfer a little more chocolate.

From a bottle poured a brown color with a fair amount of head. Sweet malty flavor with a quick finish. dagimp (1008) - Philly, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 26, 2011
From a 750ml bottle into a snifter. Pours a great, dark chocolate brown. Plenty of head which leaves a little lacing and some stuff on the top. Not much aroma at all, possibly some chalk. Mouthfeel is also great, dry and smooth with a little tang. Taste is dry, with coffee, cocoa and .... that’s about it. Overall, an OK beer but I won’t buy again. Pour is black with a thin brown head. Lacing is decent when the head fades into nothingness. Aroma is bitterness with some dark Belgian chocolate. Flavor is like a Irish dry stout with a slight bitterness in the finish. Aftertaste is of pure dark chocolate. Scrapersnbeer (1532) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 4, 2013
Obvious chocolate aroma - specifically hot (okay, cold) cocoa, and some dark malt and fruit background. Dark brown with dark tan head. Sweet chocolatey flavor, less complex than expected. Thick and oily body, a palate jammer. Could stand to be more bitter...and where do those Belgians get their chocolate? pfc514 (146) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - FEB 4, 2014
Pours black with two fingers of cream head in a snifter.
Pretty ok. A bit thinner on the mouthfeel than I wold want with a stout, and the chocolate isn’t nearly as pronounced as advertised. It’s there, but you have to do a bit of searching. They did a good job with accenting the belgian qualities, but the chocolate and stout elements seem to be a bit too understated for my taste. Don’t hate it, but wouldnt buy again.
