Pours beautiful dark copper brown with thick head that lasts, little bit of lace. Candy sweet aroma with a little spice. Belgian yeast evident in aroma. Medium thick feel with medium carbonation. Spicy to start, with a savory, spicy, sweet malt. Medium to light roast. Faint hop bitterness. Belgian yeast interacts well with the spice. Very nicely balanced. Finishes a little peppery, which is surprising for 6.2% ABV. Very nice beer, complex enough to be really interesting, fantastic food beer.
Ruddy, brown color with a small, but stable, gentle, tiny bubbled, canvas colored head. Nice lace. Light sweet toasted malt with a backdrop of light leather and tobacco. Earthy toasted malt, with a brown sugar sweetness. A little woody. To me this comes across as a very hearty Irish red, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Not quite the depth of malt I would like in this one. Still very enjoyable. 7/10

Unusual but interesting aroma of dark molasses and fresh wort. Hazy medium amber/tangerine color with a finely carbonated tan head. Delicious, full bodied malt taste with notes of wood and smoke. Dark caramel sweetness that’s light in taste with some dark fruit and pumpkin. Body is creamy yet light and somewhat watery which makes this very drinkable . There’s a dry woodiness throughout the taste. Leaves behind a light sweetness and a little smoke. Very interesting and tasty take on a Scottish ale. slowrunner77 (11917) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 2, 2014
"a cool belgian style scotch ale that hit the spot when in the mood for a malty winter brew. fruity esters present in the aroma and flavor from the yeast, but just a hint of spicy, so more scotch ale than belgian, which suited me just fine. expertly balanced and robust and flavorful for a 6 1/2 percent beer. well done. another i’d get a lot if it were cheaper." ttoadee (1477) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUN 7, 2014
Pours a deep clear amber. Decent tan head. Nose is smoke, sea air, dark soft fruits. Bittersweet. Middle is smooth and smokey, coco & fig spread. Finish is creamy & full-bodied with a hint of peat and alcohol. generallee08 (772) - New York, USA - MAY 23, 2014
Appearance: It looks dark in the glass and has a garnet red hue when held up to the light. This is capped off by a two to three finger head which has excellent retention. A small light tan layer of foam hangs on till the last sip. As I take each sip the head coats the glass with film of slick bubbles which brakes up and leaves cool lace patterns on the glass.
Smell: I get a lot of the smoked malt right up front with some mild fruity malt notes and classic Ommegang yeast notes underneath. Way off in the distance is a very faint hint of heather.
Taste/Palate: The flavor has a sweet malty character up front with fruity and yeasty notes. This is backed up with very firm smoky malt which covers up the light floral heather notes. Hops are distant and offer only light leafy herbal notes with light hop bitterness. This all comes by way of a smooth softly carbonated palate with a medium to full body.

Bottle most likely from Belmont or JJ’s but finally drank in FL. Nice dark brown-bronze pour with reddish highlights. Short foamy khaki head. Gentle aroma of malt and a hint of the heather with a little smoke lurking too. Nice flavor that starts with malt, then you get a nice smokiness and it finishes with a lingering, coffee-like bitterness. Well done. Beerdedone (3401) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 15, 2014
Bottle. Pours amber brown with a one finger off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, raisins and some light smoke. Rich malty flavor of caramel malts, raisins, dark fruit, earth, toffee and had a touch of smoke. Beergeek23322 (2602) - Chester, Virginia, USA - DEC 8, 2013
9/23/2010. From bottle. Redbrown with a tan head. Roasted malt, dried fruit, sugar, Belgian yeast, caramel and nutty flavors with a hint of smoke. Good balance and complexity. merc7186 (3142) - North Tonawanda, New York, USA - OCT 27, 2013

WOW! It pours a dark cloudy brown and has a sweet malt aroma. The flavor is smoky and it has a full palate and pleasant mouth-feel. EXCELLENT BEER!
