Duvel Rustica Golden Ale is our long-anticipated collaboration with Duvel. It’s our first Belgian-style Golden Ale, a elegant ale noted for using simple ingredients to create complex flavors and aromas. We worked closely with Duvel on the recipe and processes, yet added our own signature notes. This Duvel collaboration created a fine ale, one with all the depth and breadth of Duvel’s classic Belgian Golden Ale, along with rustic notes, including fruity esters from our yeast. In keeping with our rustic farmstead roots, Rustica pours a golden hue, the aroma and flavor mixes maltiness and citrus from hops while the yeast produces notable fruitiness. The body is lean and rounded, while the finish offers dry warmth & firm hop bitterness.

On tap: pour is cloudy light gold with a modest fine bubbled white head in.this tulip. Average to poor retention and light lacing is present here. The nose reveals sweet bread, cloves.and.spices, and a hint of.cinnamon. a fruitiness is present.in pear.and peach by my estimation. I think the nose is the highlight for me, because.this one.comes.across a little messy. Bitter, fruity, and sweet initially. There’s a hint of vinousness here, with more sweet bread and while there’s a Belgian side here I’m not impressed at all

Bottle. Poured clear golden color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate sparkling , yeast and citrus aroma. Medium body with a tingly texture and lively carbonation. Medium citrus sweet flavor with a medium citrus sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Nice hint of citrus on the palate, great taste, hint of clove in the aroma.

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2013 A musty aroma combined with citrus notes. Pours an attractive, hazy yellow with no head and little lacing. The taste, to begin with, is a restrained fruity sweetness, followed with citrus notes and then a bready finish. Medium-light mouthfeel with crisp, yet moderate carbonation. A refreshing dry finish. Overall, I think this beer met the intent of the brewers. It has the charactereistics of a Belgian ale as well as the charteristics of a farmhouse ale. Enjoyable.

Cloudy tan...certainly doesn’t have that Duvel head, aroma is appetizing, with sweet honey, some gentle spiciness, yeast complexity. The taste...I’m not sure this follows through. The orangey character is there but muted, the malts pushed more to the fore and are sweeter and the alcohol is Duvel-like but it doesn’t work as well with the hop dryness. Does not compare well to Duvel and only okay as a strong Belgian golden.

Bottle shared at Dadtoberfest. The aroma is sweet, earthy, pepper. The aroma was hazy gold, white head. The flavor was virtually the same. The finish was peppery, but a residual sweetness as well. Enjoyable.

Draft at Dutch-s. Clear light golden with a medium white head with sporadic lacing. Nose is mildly spicy and herbal with some banana fruitiness. The flavor is much of the same with a bit of solvent toward the finish. I don’t like this as much as regular Duvel.
