Ommegang Game Of Thrones #2 - Take the Black Stout Very dark near black pour over a very foamy and active tan head. Head lasts forever and leaves some very thick lacing. Scent is all malts and earth and chocolate. Very thick mouth. Lots of dark chocolate bitterness and a surprising amount of hops. Much more hops taste than usual in a stout. Im guessing high IBUs here. Theres a tartness as well, licorice like. Its like its trying to be too dark. Trying too hard to have a touch of harshness that I think ruins the balance a bit. For a theme beer I think it does what it is trying to do. The problem is that I think it takes it too far. This would be fantastic if slightly less harsh.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Liors place. Thanks DSG. Opaque black with brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, wood, some cherry and licorice, a bit smoked. Sweetish flavor, alcoholic with notes of licorice, anice, wood, bitterish, lots of roastiness, ash. Very carbonated, full-bodied. Very nice.

Bottle, 75cl corked, shared by bergstaden. A dark brown beer with a dense, finger-thick beige head. The aroma has a good dash of licorice, with chocolate, oatmeal, coffee and mocha. Its full-bodied, smooth and lightly warming, with a nice carbonation level. Roasted malts, prunes and figs, mocha, oatmeal cookies and some licorice in the flavor, followed by a good dash of bitterness. Lasting roasted and pleasantly bittered finish. Nice indeed, but theres something missing that I cant pin point. 170311
