COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The phrase is a part of a strong theme speckled throughout HBO’s fourth season, which started airing in March. As Arya Stark sets out to avenge those who have fallen, she adopts it as a mantra against the people she wants dead. The label art features a two-headed coin, which was given to Arya by Jagen H’ghar, one of the "Faceless Men of Braavos" assassins who can change their appearance on demand.

Each cork is fire-branded with “Valar Dohaeris,” the traditional response phrase to “Valar Morghulis” meaning “all men must die.”

Valar Morghulis possesses a deep chestnut brown color with a persistent and creamy tan head. Rich aromas of caramel, toffee, ripe fruits and burnt sugar, with a hint of cloves. The taste is delicately balanced with rich malty sweetness, caramel and just enough bitterness to balance out its malty backbone. A surprisingly dry finish is light on the tongue, which belies the initial aroma.

I had this a long time ago. It’s strange as the Stranger from the Faith of the Seven, as it does feel so distant, like in the times of Old Valyria, but of course it was not that much. Frankly my memory was as black as the Goat of Qohor, but luckily I had notes in a piece of parchment somewhere in my belongings. The name is powerful, it is known, but quite an understatement. Certainly a multi-faceted brew one can find at the atrium by the pool at the House of Black and White. Nor black, nor white, the brown has a reddish tinge, like the leaves of the heart trees that honor the Old Gods of the Forest, and the beige head was firmer than I expected, but you couldn’t carve a weirwood face into it. Aroma of caramel and all those ripe fruits the waifs keep in a basket at the deepest level, the musty stone vault where the faces hang and mould. Very appealing aroma, so sweet and alluring that makes me want to drown myself into it like the God of the Iron Islands. The flavour is also fruits and caramels, classy sweets, homey, milk desserts prepared by prepared by the Weeping Woman of Lys. There’s a certain deal of alcohol one could detect, but amicable and tender, and not fiery as the heart of the Lord of Light. The palate is smooth and velvety as the fur of the Lion of Night from Yi Ti. So good an experience one would not mind drinking from that pool as, in the end, Valar Morghulis.

December 4, 2014 - with blankboy, gregclow, jercraigs and mabel - 750ml bottle. Bubbly bright deep red with a smallish off-white head. sweet, fruity and yeasty aroma, restrained alcohol - a bit spicy and lush; hint of smoke? Taste is more a fruity/raisin over sweet dubbel - yeast and sugar. Slick, light body, weak carbonation - a little appleseed bitterness in the quick finish - still damned fun to drink.

On tap @ Barleycorn. This is a deeper dark brown looking one, almost deep copper and quite cloudy in the glass. A huge almost creamy khaki head leaving nice lacings and dots down the glass. The nose has tones of sweet dark candied sugar, earthy fruit. I get a little bit of alcohol, warming, pleasant. Tastes quite good this. It has a good almost acidic sweetness. Lots of dark candied sugar here’s. It’s really smooth and creamy in the mouth and therefor somewhat soft on the carbonation. Traces of both cold coffee and chocolate wrapper. In the end it turns more nutty in a way with a taste of burnt raisins. Just had the #3 in the series and enjoyed it, but this is even tastier. 16.06.2015

A cloudy, brown pour with an off-white head. The aroma has bready malt, raisin, and cloves. It has a medium body with lively carbonation. The taste is tart with a mouthwatering finish.

Pours a pretty pale brown for a dubnel with a beige rim on top that leaves some lacing. Nose is of grapes, alcohol and burnt sugar. Taste is of caramel, toffee, more burnt sugar and some dark fruits. Just too caramel-forward for me to give it a thumbs up. Moderate body and carbonation. A pretty good "dubbel" that is just lacking the classic dark fruits too much.

Bottle (750 ml), shared by czar, thanks! BB 09/09/2017 so it’s quite a bit old already. Hazy dark copper with a small bubbly beige head leaving little lacing. Aroma is of caramel, dried raisins/fruits, molasses notes and mild spiciness. Taste is semi-sweet, dried fruits, caramel/brown sugar and mild spiciness. Medium body. Moderate-medium carbonation. Dried raisins finish. Really well preserved for an old Dubbel. Complex, flavorful and drinkable.

750 ml corked and crowned bottle. Translucent mahogany brown color. Small creamy beige head. Aroma is redolent of dark dried fruit, Demerara sugar and overripe plums. Flavor follows nose with additional notes of burnt caramel and cloves. Silky mouthfeel with complex dark fruity malt notes. Finishes with rich chewy malt and subtle hops. Very nicely done. A tasty Dubbel Ale.
