COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hoppy, farmhouse style ale has a champagne like effervescence with a crisp but light on the tongue finish. Similar to the Belgian Saison style , this beer serves well as an aperitif. Hennepin has a majestic golden hue. The style is called Grisette or farm house and is considered to be in the domain of the Belgian Saisons.

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2007 Pours very nice golden color into a tulip. Active 1/2 inch head that sustains. Aromatic: floral, hay, dough and leather. A little soapy, but still refreshing. Lively with lasting dry banana finish.

Draught. Gold with a nice white soda head. Yeasty spice aromas. Similar to the leffe, but with fresh as hell green apple flavor. sugar and coariander. lighter body, but appropriate. sweet, sour, and bitter in a perfect balance. drinkable as all hell.

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2014 Draft at RFD in DC, 1/12/06. Pours a clear yellow with a small head and thick lacing; the aroma is humus, belgian yeast, and lemon; the flavor follows, lemon and yeast and earth and a sourness. The mouthfeel is smooth and full with just a hint of a late alcohol burn and a long bitter finish. 7/3/7/4/14=3.5

Bottle 8/1/07 I just dont understand the hype about this one. The aroma is OK if rather bready, with the aforementioned lemon there, but not any of the funky lovely complexity of my favorite imported saisons. The flavor is medicinal, lots of bandaid instead of funk, barely sour, simply not enough going on, albeit with a pleasant finish that garners some points. The mouthfeel on this is watery and very thin, no where near the body one might hope for at the promised 7.7%, and that watery texture carries over into the flavor which is just too subdued and watered down. Im disappointed. Id call this 6/3/7/3/12=3.1.

Ill split the difference between the two ratings.

Bottle revisit 5/21/14 Tolerable American saison. A bit of banana, a lot more bandaid and ricola cough drop and medicine cabinet in general, maybe something that could charitably be called elements of Laphroig whisky (but none of the smoke). I like Krisbierjaegers "sawdust" descriptor. No particular reason this should be nearly 8%. Id probably have gone around 3.5 this time if I was rating afresh, and 3.1 is too harsh but I will leave the 3.3.

tl;dr summary: As a very early American saison maybe this was something back in the day.

"MMMM nice beer. Poured a nice golden color with a huge head, amazing lacing, still there long after the beer was gone. Smelled of spices fruits and floral. Tasted of spices and light fruits as well, little sugar as well. Little thin on mouth feel. Overall great beer."

(01.08.06) One pint, 9.4 oz brown corked bottle purchased from DiCarlos, Mundelein, IL. 7.7% ABV. Hazy orange hued ale having a long-lasting giant white head with good lacing. Soft carbonation. Fruity and spicy aroma. Medium bodied that starts with light sweet malt and fruity and spicy (clove) flavors. Finishes dry with light malt aftertaste. Very good fruity Belgium style saison, went well with salmon corn chowder soup.

0.75l bottle. Cork exploded out of the bottle, followed by foaming beer. By the time wed poured and cleaned up the head was small and white. Hazy yellow body. Sweet banana and bubblegum aroma, with spicy notes. Taste is spicy paradise seeds and pepper with banana notes and dry noble hops. Good, but not that good.

Got this for New Years and wish I wouldve just spent the extra $3 or $4 on something better. Pretty basic beer, poured a golden orange color with fluffy white head, the 3 glasses I poured out of it for myself all tasted the same, an orange and coriander flavor with maybe some lemon zest but very subtle, you could taste the alcohol either that or the spices used in it, this was a dissapointment but it also only cost $4.75 for this big ass bottle so you get what you pay for.

Nice opaque amber color with a clean, consistent head. Initial nose contains gentle orange flavors with a silky texture, and the first touch to the palate affirms this observation. The finish is dissappointing as the alcohol is quite biting on the edges of the tongue for a Belgian ale of 7.7%

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2008 12oz Bottle. Lemon wheat cloudy pour, tinged with orange. Rimmed with a symmetrical sticky white. Gentle warm pear and fresh bread aroma. A soft citrus flavor combined with warm yeast. Alcohol is surprisingly biting and somewhat harsh on the finish. Mainly a run of pineapple and other generic fruits that dont fully rear their heads.
