This style is a farmhouse ale, and is considered to be in the domain of the Belgian Saisons. Hennepin is a delicious brew for all seasons, it is spicy and refreshing. A moderately hoppy, farmhouse-style ale with a champagne-like effervescence, Hennepin has a crisp start followed by malt sweetness balanced with a firm bitterness. Hennepin has a bounty of great flavors: ginger, spice, orange and toasted grain. Pouring a bright golden color with a spicy-sweet balance of orange peel, sweet malt, hops and ginger, Hennepin makes way for a dry finish with a slight bite of ginger.

Pours cloudy light yellow. Light, minimalist white head. Kind of a sweet, yet sour smell. Not so pleasant, but the drink was easy to digest. Enjoyed.

Served cellar-temp and opened with a violent cork-pop. Duvelesque in appearance with an explosive head (that did not linger, however), a golden body and happy carbonation. Aroma is intriguing and multi-layered starting with an unwelcome "cat-in-heat" glandular scent, dissipating to light soapiness and powdery florals, both sweet and sour. Violets and herbs in a delicate perfume that predicates this beer’s flavor. A body consistent with thin honey, but soft carbonation adds a fluff to subtract from its stickiness. Yeasts dominate the flavor with sour fruits and aromatic bites of flower petals.

I wish I would have sampled more beers like this before diving headlong into the world of lambics as this seems the perfect transition.

Pours cloudy yellow, marshmallowy head with meringue-y cling, generous champagne bubbles throughout. In aroma its like the high and low notes are closer together, rounded, not as sharp as in other lighter Belgians,. a whiff of warm hay. It’s tingly on the front tongue and moderately astringent on the back, feel of bubbles along my gum line. Delicate balance among lemonade and powdered sugar flavors & a neutral bitterness. The warming takes a while to settle in.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2006 Sweet and crisp with an amazing aroma. Miller High Life, the champagne of beers? Not even close...but Hennepin on the other hand...it’s got all of the right qualities. This beer is the perfect embodiment of a champagne like beer.

Bottle Pours a hazy yellow with a fair white fizzy head. Has a typical belgian aroma. Sweet with decent spicies. Has a nice carbonation and a good mouthfeel. A nice slight bitterness. Good crisp flavor. This one kind of snuck up on me. I enjoyed this ale very much.

Pours a cloudy yellow color with a nice white head. Flavor is yeasty with aroma being very similar. Not bad at all. One I will be enjoying again soon.

Bottle from Premier in Buffalo. Pastel yellow body, big fluffy white head. (3+) Lighty yeasty aroma with lightly spicy notes. Flavour is similar to the aroma, a light spicy character with very light fruit notes and a dry finish that leaves lingering alcohol and pepper. Average palate is light on the tongue. Pleasant, but would be more quaffable if the alcohol was a touch more rounded in the finish.

Pours yellow/gold, with a white head. Aromas are yeast, spices, banana, clove and citrus fruit. Flavors are citrus fruit, yeast, spice, banana, and malt. A really goos saison.
