Bottle. Pours a clear amber body with a nice frothy and fluffy off-white head that slowly faded. The nose is a great mix of the specialty grains, especially the rye and oats, and the light floral hops. It’s a really pleasant earthy perfume like combination. The flavor is equally well balanced, at one moment I think the rye and earthy oat dominate and the next I think the slightly bitter and fruity hops take over. Finishes with just a minimal fruitiness and a little earthy rye. Light to medium bodied with a soft fizzy carbonation level. Nice lingering finish. Overall a really nice subtle beer that still has a lot of complexity. This is one of the better Ommegang beers I’ve had in a while.

Brilliant amber color with lasting ivory sheen. Rich, spicy rye, caramel, oatmeal, cereal grain aromas. Light to medium body. Lightly sweet caramel, light fruit flavors with rye bread spice, belgian yeast--tasty belgian ale.

12oz bottle poured into a tumbler glass. Hazy amber color with a decent off white head. Herbal aroma, with fruity notes (dried apricots), honey and light caramel. Malty flavors, some tart fruits, lo-med bitterness, faint alcoholic notes and light spiciness. Medium bodied, lively, raw and quite interesting - but only for the first few sips.

Very aromatic: fruity, cloves, and banana. Pours a clear orange with very stable head. Malt body is sweet but tapers off to feature a typical Belgian yeast profile. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A good solid beer. Not my favorite from Ommegang but worth a taste. Drank from a growler. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pleasant satisfying brew. A small retained head. Above average mouthfeel. Good drinkability, a meal in itself. Moderately yeasty. Very good for the syle. Satisfying.

glennmastrange (2868) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - FEB 7, 2013
Bottle. Moderate straw for the malt, light to moderate herbs and soap for the hops and yeast, with apple, wood, pepper and hints of a fruity liqueur. Head is large, frothy turning rocky, off-white with excellent crust lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is hazy medium amber/orange. Flavor is moderately acidic to start, then finishes faintly sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively to fizzy carbonation ad a dry. Although a little simple in the flavor up front, this Rye Beer is excellent.
