Almost jet black color. In the aroma you get a clear coffee/espresso smell. However, as the beer warms, the sweetness of oatmeal creeps in to match up 50/50 with the coffee aroma. The samples that I had were served pretty cold for the style. Taste mirrors the aroma, roasty espresso flavors and touches of oatmeal as it warmed. Thinner body than I expected from a beer of such great flavors, color, and representation of the style. The carbonation was a bit higher than expected as well, but worked very well with all aspects of the brew.
I had no trouble with either sample in drinkability terms. Overall a great package, and wonderful to sip on. The lower ABV is certainly welcomed in this brew.
On tap, BCTC 2008. Pours a cloudy dark brown body with a minimal beige head that faded fairly quickly. The nose is a bit thin with roasty malt, coffee, some chocolate, but not a whole lot of oat character. The flavor is pretty thin and watery with dry roasted malt, coffee, and some yeast that dulls everything a bit. Short, watery finish. Mouthfeel is thin with light fizzy carbonation . Pretty disappointing all in all. Miver (615) - Silver Spring, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 12, 2008
Draft at BCTC ’08. Poured deep brownish amber in color with a tan head. Aroma of oats, coffee, and mocha. Tastes of creamy chocolate, coffee, with a large amount of oats, and mild roast. abcfan (928) - New Jersey, USA - AUG 12, 2008
Sample at BCTC 2008. Pours black with a nice fluffy tan head. Aroma is full of oats and dry chocolate. Taste is very creamy, but kind of thin and fizzy on the tongue. Pretty good overall. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 11, 2008

Tap @ BCTC. Dark with a light tan head. Aroma and taste are similar and have dark bitter chocolate and roasted malts. Body did not have much to help the taste. Some sweet creamyness but a bit too watery. Dickinsonbeer (5073) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - AUG 6, 2008
bctc 08. Pours a nice deep dark black with a fizzy moderate head. aroma is very toasty, nutty, tons of roasted and chocolate malts- just a straight up nice stouty smell. Flavor is a bit thin in the middle- more toasted and chocolate malts, light smoothing effects from some oats- creamy flavor but the body and finish seemed a bit overcarbonated thin and fizzy to me. Ok overall- I didnt understand the point of this beer other than the name and relation to the theme of the fest- no real belgian character at all. Draft @ BCTC. Pours dark brown with a tean head. Nose of roasted malt, chcoolate coffee, oats. Flavor is very similar. Medium bodied. Pretty good. egajdzis (6776) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 4, 2008
[BCTC 08] Poured a dark brown / red color with a medium sized tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, some coffee, light oats, chocolate, and some vanilla. Taste was astringent, not very creamy, some oats present, with more roasted malts, vanilla beans, vegetal, and cocoa. Thinner mouthfeel. 3fourths (9358) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 4, 2008
Draft @ BCTC. Dark brown, thick, rich and creamy looking pour with a sizable medium to dark brown head on top. Vibrant, fresh and pronounced nose of creamy oatmeal, chocolate and dry roast, lightly sweet in the nose as well. Over-carbonated and somewhat thin on the palate, with a heavy amount of coffee, much more than in the nose, along with the oatmeal and chocolate notes, but compared to the nose it’s pretty disappointing... thin, plastic-like chocolate tasting completely separate from the oatmeal, compared to a more integrated nose. I wanted to like it, it smelled great, but tasted flabby and messy.
