COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Three Philosophers is a unique blend of a Belgian-style dark ale and Liefmans Kriek, an authentic cherry ale from Belgium. Cherry chestnut in color, it’s opaque but not cloudy with full carbonation topped by a smooth, tan head. Flavors and aromas of roasted malt, molasses and brown sugar, dark fruits, brandied raisins and chocolate, Three Philosophers has notable sweetness with low hop bitterness. The mid-palate shows a soft malt center which gives way to a dry, warm, wine-like finish.

Very smooth! Slight licorice notes with spice, but with the ABV where it is you can’t tell. It is smoother than the Abbey and get’s better as it gets oxygen whipping around the glass!

absolutely delicious. cherry flavour is definitely the mildest hint of dessert at the end of an endlessly complicated quadrupel body, start to finish. i was smelling the cork the morning after just to remember the flavour... so many layers of malt, hops in a strong and daring balance. again, the cherry ale is really not in the forefront of the mix as it only 2% of the brew, but it does add a special something that makes this one stand out.

Surprised to see I've never gotten around to rating this classic. And don't get me wrong--I appreciate Three Philosophers, even if I've never been quite as smitten with its enigmatic complexities as the more hardcore proponents of Belgian-style beers. Sweetness still becomes a sticking factor--kinda dumb, I know, when judging quads--but the candi sugar indulgence adds a heaviness that dulls the acidic boost from the cherries. Still, the blend of molasses, cocoa, dark fruits, yeast, and slightest of hoppy bite fights off any cloy notes, and the vinous finish keeps me coming back. Pours a hazy red-brown with a permanent beige head and moderate lacing. Nose is yeast and cherries and...balsa wood, maybe? Perky texture's good for a wannabe Belgian. Good beer.

Aromat: głownie wiśnie i czereśnie, ale doszukać się można także porzeczek i rodzynek. W tle czekolada, paloność, melano i alkohol. Po chwili dochodzą do tego landrynki.

Wygląd: barwa rubinowa, przejrzysta, śliczna. Piana, jaka piana? Biało żólta, niewielka i niemal natychmiast zanika.

Smak: spora słodycz, skontrowana kwaskowoością i alkoholem. Do tego nuty palone, melanoidynowe, kawowe, czekoladowe, połączone z wiśniami. Wyraźnie zaznaczona goryczka z ciemnych słodów i alkoholu, nie przesadzona, przyjemna. Wysoka pełnia, umiarkowane wysycenie i kwaskowo- czekoladowo-palony finisz z alkoholem, rozgrzewającym przełyk.

Pours a muddy mahogany. Smell is cherries and yeast. The cherry taste is obvious, but there's some dark dried fruit taste from the malts as well. Rich caramel malts with a sweet oak and wine quality. A good bit of carbonation and some hops help balance this out.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2018 Pours a reddish hazy brown, the color of brandied cherries. Though only 2% cherry is added, the smell and taste lean predominately towards sour cherry. Lots of malt and some dark chocolate too.

Bottle 0,33 thanks to Slacker. Pours hazy Brown with medium off-white head. Quite nice, taste with notes of malts, caramel, figs, raisins some yeast, all this is well balanced by a bit sour cherry notes. Medium to full body and average carbonation.

Bottle. Pours unclear brownish amber. Aroma is marzipan, Belgian candy, sugar icing. Body is heavy and strong, lots of dark ripe fruit, also candy and marzipan, with a low carbonation. Full-ish and boozy, yet not overpowered. Not as complex as it could be, though. Good!
