Three Philosophers is a unique blend of a Belgian-style dark ale and Liefmans Kriek, an authentic cherry ale from Belgium. Cherry chestnut in color, it’s opaque but not cloudy with full carbonation topped by a smooth, tan head. Flavors and aromas of roasted malt, molasses and brown sugar, dark fruits, brandied raisins and chocolate, Three Philosophers has notable sweetness with low hop bitterness. The mid-palate shows a soft malt center which gives way to a dry, warm, wine-like finish.

It was 20 degrees F when I started my first of ywo goblets, perfect whether for a winter warmer like this. Appearance was very dark red, can’t see through glass when holding up to light. Smell of raisans or over-ripe fruit. The taste was superb ona cold winter’s night. It is now 19 degrees F.

Bottled 355ml. -from Beergium. Clear amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, brown sugar in the nose. Sweet malty, dried fruits, brown sugar, discreet touch of cherries and noticable alcohol with touch of dates. The finish is rather sweet. Nothing more nothing less than ok, expected much better one.

Pours dark amber with a 2-finger tan head and an aroma of malt & a hint of wood. Tastes of malt and chocolate with a sweet hint of banana from the yeast. It's medium bodied with lively carbonation and well hidden alcohol. It's a slightly sweet chocolate banana ale with a dry finish. There is also a hint of sour/bitter cherry.

Pours a nice reddish bronze with a fluffy head. Aroma of dark fruits, cherry, candied malts, and booze. Taste is initially astringent alcohol forward but gives way to very complex cherry, plum, caramel malty flavors. Better as it warms. Slick carbonated mouthfeel. This is definitely a winner

2015 bottle via Rakuten. In color it is a deep brown with a beige head that dissipated super fast but it also has some pretty ruby highlights. The aroma is candied plums and stone fruits with a hint of berries. Full bodied which I like but sharply carbonated which I don’t as I prefer a smoother mouthfeel. That being said it is very common for the style.
The taste is rich malty sweet caramel with big berry and stone fruit notes plus some sharp booziness. Paired with the Caramel Tokyo Banana the beer really shines with the caramel becoming a chocolatey toffee like flavor and the beer’s sharp edges getting softened. Really good but I’d say you really should pair it with food for maximum enjoyment.

Three Philosophers: It has subtle connotations of communion wine and strong connotations of soy sauce.

Bottle from a Safeways in San Francisco. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, yeast, dark bread, raisins, dark dried fruits, notes of chocolate, with a slight hint of cherries that I probably wouldn’t have detected if I didn’t know they were there. Flavour is sugary sweet and light bitter. Body is medium to full. Good Quad, lots of bold flavours, cherry is too subdued for my taste. Very enjoyable.

Overall good quad with just a touch of cherry finish that is very subtle but lingers on the palate in a good way. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber from Whole Foods, poured into tulip glass. Reddish brown with beige head and dark fruit aroma, medium body with light carbonation. Taste is brandy, raisin, cherry, and caramel. Finish is bittersweet malt. Excellent quad.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2017 Piana dość obfita, lekko sycząca, średnio trwała. Barwa miedziana, opalizująca. Aromat dość klasyczny, mało intensywny - rodzynki, figi, morele kandyzowane, miód spadziowy, zboże i zioła, gdzieś na trzecim planie dojrzałe wiśnie, kriek... W smaku podobnie, sporo słodyczy, dojrzałych winogron, migdałów, olejku arakowego, razowego chleba, lekko winny posmak od wiśni i pestkowo przyprawowa, średnia goryczka, nieco przydługa, drażniąca.
