3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A powerful beer.... Vintage 2011...smell like maple syrup and cherry brandy...this is a sipper of course. Preferably by a fire wearing one if those thick wool ish sweaters with the extended color that comes down. It also has big buttons this sweater you are wearing by the fire as u sip this beer...so yeah it not a beer you get super enthusiastic about but one you drink to be somber.. What?? Think powerful malty strong tons of aromas and flavors... Hard to drink.. I'm young

Pours brilliant ruby with a small tan head. Aroma is cherries and chocolate. Taste is moderately sweet and sour. There are notes of cherries, roasted malt, grapes, chocolate and wine. Full bodied with moderate carbonation. This was a bit of a letdown after the description. I suppose it does blend the two styles pretty well, but some of the quadruple character is lost because of the acidity and the strong alcohol in the finish. SinH4 (6390) - Garching b. Bottle. Ruby color with tan head. Aroma is raisins, a touch cherries, chocolate, malty, brown sugar. Taste is the same. Silky mouthfeel with high but soft carbonation. Solid Quadrupel with a touch wildness! wxman (1853) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - OCT 30, 2017
Pours a cloudy orange/amber with a full off white/orange head. Aroma is dark fruit and brandy. Taste is sweet caramel malt, molasses, dark candied fruit, buttered biscuits, and some chocolate notes along with a bit of Merlot. Alcohol warmth evident after the swallow. More sweet, dark malts, caramel, burnt molasses, dark, dried fruits, raisins, prunes, soft carbonation, full bodied. Very nice. Keg at GABF17, Denver. Poured from caged and corked 750ml(2005-room temp) a deep amber with a huge head of foam that dissipates slowly leaving a fine layer with nice lacing.
The smell is a wonderfully sweet malt and cherry that explodes out of the bottle upon opening and continues from my New Belgium goblet.
The taste is a mix of caramel sweetness and cherry tartness, an unusual combination for my taste buds but the more I sip, the more I realize that this brew is quite enjoyable and the near 10%abv? I don't find it in the taste at all and after swallowing, there's just a slight warming. Good stuff!
Bottom line: This is a fine brew that I *know* I'll be trying again. I recommend it.
Edit, Nov 2 1010: My first bottle since my review, a 12ozer. As deliciously cherry tarty and with the same caramel sweetness as the 750ML bottles. It lost nothing going down from the large format bottle at all. A real treat to drink!
Breezy4life (73) - - OCT 7, 2017
Color is deep, dark amber. Aroma is lightly toasted malt and yeast. Malt smooth with heavy alcohol on the finish. Medium mouthfeel. Beautiful Belgian. Balanced. DonGregorio (573) - POLAND - OCT 6, 2017
Bottle. Unclear dark amber / copper colour, average tan head with good duration. Aroma of dark fruits, dried fruits, raisins, cherries, light caramel, esters, some spice. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter, of dark fruits, dried fruits, cherries, light caramel, prunes, some spices, a bit vinous. Medium body and carbonation. Tasty and interesting, but not great. higgsbison (270) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 22, 2017
May 2016. Not my favorite quad. But easily drinkable. Alcohol is well hidden. Notes of rum soaked raisins and figs

Bottled 355ml. -from Beergium. Clear amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, brown sugar in the nose. Sweet malty, dried fruits, brown sugar, discreet touch of cherries and noticable alcohol with touch of dates. The finish is rather sweet. Nothing more nothing less than ok, expected much better one.
