COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Three Philosophers is a unique blend of a Belgian-style dark ale and Liefmans Kriek, an authentic cherry ale from Belgium. Cherry chestnut in color, it’s opaque but not cloudy with full carbonation topped by a smooth, tan head. Flavors and aromas of roasted malt, molasses and brown sugar, dark fruits, brandied raisins and chocolate, Three Philosophers has notable sweetness with low hop bitterness. The mid-palate shows a soft malt center which gives way to a dry, warm, wine-like finish.

Bottle. Ruby color with tan head. Aroma is raisins, a touch cherries, chocolate, malty, brown sugar. Taste is the same. Silky mouthfeel with high but soft carbonation. Solid Quadrupel with a touch wildness!

Pours a cloudy orange/amber with a full off white/orange head. Aroma is dark fruit and brandy. Taste is sweet caramel malt, molasses, dark candied fruit, buttered biscuits, and some chocolate notes along with a bit of Merlot. Alcohol warmth evident after the swallow.

Intense caramel, bread, sweet grain malts. Clear, dark brown, small, creamy, beige head. Heavy sweet. More sweet, dark malts, caramel, burnt molasses, dark, dried fruits, raisins, prunes, soft carbonation, full bodied. Very nice. Keg at GABF17, Denver.

From May 2006 Poured from caged and corked 750ml(2005-room temp) a deep amber with a huge head of foam that dissipates slowly leaving a fine layer with nice lacing. The smell is a wonderfully sweet malt and cherry that explodes out of the bottle upon opening and continues from my New Belgium goblet. The taste is a mix of caramel sweetness and cherry tartness, an unusual combination for my taste buds but the more I sip, the more I realize that this brew is quite enjoyable and the near 10%abv? I don't find it in the taste at all and after swallowing, there's just a slight warming. Good stuff! Bottom line: This is a fine brew that I *know* I'll be trying again. I recommend it. Edit, Nov 2 1010: My first bottle since my review, a 12ozer. As deliciously cherry tarty and with the same caramel sweetness as the 750ML bottles. It lost nothing going down from the large format bottle at all. A real treat to drink!

Color is deep, dark amber. Aroma is lightly toasted malt and yeast. Malt smooth with heavy alcohol on the finish. Medium mouthfeel. Beautiful Belgian. Balanced.
