Witte is our version of the classic Belgian wit or "white" ale. Witte, which is actually Flemish for white, is brewed with malted and unmalted wheat, orange peel, and coriander - offering a refreshing style that showcases the Belgian talent for brewing full-flavored ales that are also light and balanced. It is pale straw in color, slightly hazy from the yeast, and topped with a huge white, fluffy head.

What do you call this? White ale, huh? Sounds pretty racist to me. Pekkcom.

Got one bottle, thinking it was something new since it is labelled White Wheat Ale" instead of Witte... but I guess not. Its at 5.2% and conforms to the usual descriptions, such as Very citrus forward with a little spice on the aftertaste. Earthy tones prevail along with a slightly dish soap reminiscent lemony tint and tartness. Light bodied and refreshing on a warm afternoon. Yeah, soapy, boring, not that great and the spice, coriander or clove, is not one I care for in an ale. One and done.

Hazy bright yellow color with rocky white head. Aroma has wheat, banana and vanilla sweetness, really nice. Taste is not really sweet but has some banana flavor. Also some sourdough, a little astringent and bitter. Light body, medium carbonation but feels quite smooth. Overall its a pretty good witbier but the flavor doesnt match the aroma.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass. Appearance is hazy pale yellow with greenish tinge, 1 1/2-finger width frothy white head with fair retention, decent sparkle, decent lcaing. Aroma is surprising smokiness, wheat. Taste is tart, citrusy wheat, different from aroma. Palate is medium bodied with foamy texture, lively carbonation and lightly tart finish. Overall, representative of the style without a lot of complexity.

This beer has instructions printed on the label of the bottle explaining how to pour it for intended experience. If you dump it into your glass you get a different beverage than if you slowly & carefully transfer it w/o disturbing the yeast on the bottom. Poured correctly, its a crystal clear very pale wheat beer with small head - Dumping produces cloudy beer w/ exploding foam that threatens to escape said glass. Fine witbier!
