3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark black with hints of red that is murky and not quite opaque with a one finger head that quickly dissipates leaving heavy lacing. Aroma of caramelized sugar dark cherries. Hint of herbal hop flavor. Moderately sweet up front and turns slightly bitter toward the end. Long finish with burnt sugar. Moderate carbonation, medium to full bodied with sticky mouthfeel. Hint of booziness.
Finally cracked this and shared with friends. It has aged well. Dark fruits and chocolate with a nice boozy jolt. Crisper than I thought it would be slightly better with a bit of warmth. Yum. tmoreau (4678) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - MAR 31, 2017
Shared 2012, 750 ml. bottle poured to a fest glass showing a cloudy, amber brown color, with some tan froth, and foamy spots of lacing. The nose was strong caramel & toffee sweetness, dark/dried fruit, with light spice, and lurking alcohol. Medium bodied, with a softened presence to the carbonation, the taste was similar notes as the aroma’s with slightly mellowed expression, and calmer alcohol influence. Held up fairly well for a 5 year sequestering. DerWeg (1727) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 20, 2017
Bready with cherries, black dried fruit and vanilla. Phenolic spiciness. Round but distinctly dry. A tribute to some Belgian originals with some of its own originality. Bottle from PG probably years ago. Cleverly leafy-dry against the cascade of black dry fruits that might otherwise be cloying. Over several sips the palate becomes unexpectedly creamy. I’m glad I paid a little too much for this at Premier Gourmet in Amherst near Buffalo, NY. GRM (4202) - Aylmer, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 25, 2016

Bottle shared at Ottawa 2015 end-of-year bash. Hazy mahogany with a dark tan head. Plums and raisins, candied Belgian sugars, some light yeast properties, terry’s dark chocolate orange, moderate+ carbonation and moderate body, somewhat sweet and boozy, enjoyable.

Bottle: Poured a clear brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some great lacing. Aroma of candi sugar, dry fruits with candy ester is quite sublime. Taste I also a great mix of candi sugar with some dry fruits notes with some candy-like ester and a slight peppery finish. Body is about average for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Great beer and probably something Ommegang can pull out in their sleep. rejtable (2849) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 24, 2015

Dark brown with a beige head. Slow creep out of the bottle. Aroma is sherry, dark fruits, honey, caramel. Full bodied, lightly sticky mouthfeel, sweet on the palate with a long complex finish. Taste is dark fruits, honey, caramel, Belgian yeast. Tasty. corby112 (2813) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 15, 2015
Pours a dark chestnut brown color with plum hues and a one finger beige head that has great retention, only slowly settling into a lasting cap/ring. Splotchy lacing left behind.
Slightly smokey, chalky aroma with dark malt sweetness and estery Belgian yeast notes. Hints of plum, raisin and fig along with subtle oak, caramel and roasted chooclate malt.
Medium bodied with a dry, slightly chalky texture and a nice balance of peppery spice, sweet and roasted malt and estery dark fruit notes. Subtle roast with chocolate, caramel and toffee flavor along with faint peppery spice. Lots of dark fruit sweetness on the back end with vinous grape, cherry, currant raisin and plum. Nicely balanced with a slightly dry finish. Complex and flavorful with a well masked ABV making it very easy to drink. Another nice beer from Ommegang.
