Tired of talking my friends into pit stops at beer bars before heading “out” - in fear of having to drink bland lager all night - I set out to craft an ale that would act as companion throughout the evening. Leon is assertively hopped and fermented dry using champagne yeast. The yeast and the hops in combination with a simple malt bill provides the beer with a quality of being rich in taste yet refreshing.

Bottle from BrewDog online shop. Gold, cloudy with a large foamy white head. White grape juice with an earthy yeast in the enticing aroma. Tart taste with just enough sweetness to take the edge off. Highly carbonated with a short finish. Champagne and a light vegetal note in the aftertaste. Simple, understated and sublime.

On tap at Brewdog Newcastle tap takeover. Drinkable, fresh, pleasant. Nothing exceptional though.

Stew41 (2021) - Phuket, THAILAND - OCT 21, 2016
Nothing really amazing for the style but a solid example. A little spice and maybe even the fainest hint of rhubarb. I always get a sense of saison when drinking these styles. Lingering length on the finish. (sek 49 Ominpollos Stockholm)

berntholer (1615) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - OCT 20, 2016
dense stable creamy ivorywhite head. blonde orange colour. aroma is yeasty, oranges, some fruitesters. taste like aroma, malty, sweet, counterbalanced by nice dry sourness that reminds of lactic acid (the champagne yeast?). quite dense creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. stellar balance, very tasty beer. bottle 33cl / bbf feb-2017

Heidbummer (602) - SCOTLAND - OCT 7, 2016
Draught, BD Clerkenwell. Pours hazy orange, thin lacy head. Aroma of yeast and orange, hint of doves. It’s very Belgian tasting! Nice balance of yeast, citrus, floral stuff. Perhaps a bit thin for the abv. Another solid beer from Omnipollo.
