Mazarin is my take on a “thinker’s beer”. Rather than being big and undecipherably complex I wanted to create something that would calm a hop yearning nerve without fuddling the brain too much. In other words, a lavishly hopped ale of judicious ABV — an Extra Special Pale Ale if you will.
In fact, so extra special that it snatched a gold medal at the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2013.

0,33l fles gedeeld met mark in wapse. Yoghurt en kaas met ook grapefruit niet verkeerd maar ook niet heel bijzonder

Barwa jasno żółta, miodowa; spore, równomierne zmętnienie, piana dość obfita, drobno i średnio pęcherzykowa. Przyjemny aromat cytrusowy, w smaku gładkie, wytrawne, rześkie, z wyraźnie zaznaczoną goryczką.

Pours completely hazy pale orange, topped with a big frothy white head, quite lasting. Gentler tropical fruits with grapefruit and some pine notes. Moderately bitter. Sharp herbal touch with lasting and notable aftertaste. Lighter body. Decent, but I wasn’t impressed. Expected more.

Not a bad pale ale. The oatmeal comes through in the slicker than average mouthfeel. Otherwise, citrusy with a well balanced malty backbone.

Topper !!

Keg at Brewdog Leeds. A hazy golden colour with a frothy white head. Aroma of peach, orange, lemon, some mango, slight oatmeal, a little pineapple and subtle floral hops. Taste of peach, lemon, orange, some mango, slight pineapple, a little oatmeal, a hint of biscuity malts and subtle floral hops. Light bodied and a slight oily texture. A crisp, bittersweet, fruity hop bitterness in the finish. A tropically fruity and crisp oatmeal pale. Can tell the oatmeal a there, it’s got a great malt backbone, a little sweet but nice.

Keg at The Well & Bucket, Shoreditch, London. Gold with white head. There is a juicy, floral character to this, lemon-flower notes with a fleshy lemon note. Cereal hints, biscuity. Good beer.

Medium aroma of malts, caramel, orange, tropical fruit, hops and citrus.

Turbid/opaque yellow/golden beer with a medium white head.

Starts medium/heavy sweet malts, caramel, orange and tropical fruit; ends slightly bitter and dry with hops and citrus.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. It almost tastes like a sorbet, with a great totally not artificial sweetness. The aroma could have been stronger, but everything else is amazing.
