COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When we met the Trillium team in California at the inaugural RateBeer Best Fest, we knew we had to find a way to brew together. We decided to craft an immensely complex Imperial Stout. Then came a balanced addition of Madagascar Bourbon vanilla beans and subtle hint of green cardamom to accent a liberal dose of cold brewed chocolaty medium roast from our friends at Kersh. This version comes in a 33 cl bottle while the US version comes in a 75 cl bottle.

Vintage 2016

Half a finger, dark brown head. Pitch black beer.

Aroma is coffee, vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate, dates, prunes,, slight saffron, hint of earthy cardamom and bourbon barrel.

Taste is nougat, dark chocolate, slight vanilla, dark roast coffee, whisky smokeyness, black pepper, burnt brown sugar and cardamom.

Mouthfeel is thick and oily. Medium-high, creeping bitterness. Low carbonation. Slight alcohol burn. High sweetness!

Overall: I didn't have a RB account the first time around but this definitely developed some new notes after a year! A lot of earthiness in the aftertaste and a more complex structure of spices involved. Fresh this had a lot of mint, cinnamon and cardamom which I didn't fully appreciate. I do prefer my Impy's without spices at all but it has improved, that's for sure. Fantastic body and feel on this brew, it's almost like a meal. A true sipper & winter warmer.

Bottle, courtesy of Nische in a trade. Pours dark brown with a brown low head. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate, molasses, strong sweet roasted malts. Body is heavy, sweet and strong, with a healthy dose of booze hitting the mouth hard. Coffee, vanilla, chocolate milk, booze. Very sweet, with only a low carbonation. Creamy. Long sweet vanilla and chocolate palate, warming and boozy. Good!

Many thanks to Nisse666 for this bottle. Smooth and intense thick beginning. Chocolate, roasted coffee, Port or dark Madeira. Wine-like liquid chocolate with hints of bitterness. Fascinating deep and viscous. Long intense roasted chocolate winey aftertaste. Great stuff!

(Bottle, 0.33 l, from Systembolaget, 20170313) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, coffee, dark chocolate and soy sauce. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, dark chocolate, cocoa, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, burnt and bitter. The taste was good but the aroma was too aggressive.
