On tap at Cooper’s Tavern in Madison, pours a murky black with some bright white head. Nose has burnt toast, some light coffee notes, pine resin, soap, herbs, dried citrus peel. Flavor balances roast and citrus well, toast, bread, orange, pine, soap. Full bodied, dry and bitter finish. Really solid and what you expect of the style. Now Banjo Cat. A pretty respectable Black IPA. One of the more centered and drinkable offerings I’ve had from OneBB. Brown black body. Thick steady beige head. Luscious roast chocolate tones. Respectable hop balance. Right on. Skyview (6093) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - JAN 14, 2017
Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Riley’s Wines of the World in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a clear dark cola brown color brew with an average sized off-white head that quickly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate and tropical fruit, a hint of coffee and creme tartar. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of chocolate tropical fruit and some grapefruit zest. Finish has a short dark chocolate and Cascade-like hop bitterness that slowly disappears. muzzlehatch (4970) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - APR 19, 2017
12 ounce bottle from Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI, drunk a bit below cellar temp from a pint glass. Totally opaque black oiliness, with a moderate light tan head that diminishes to a lasting thin cap with thick lacing...lightly smoky, toasty nose, hints of prunes, perhaps raisins, caramel and vanilla are lightly noticeable....dark fruits in the body as well, but mostly strongly roasty malts and a fairly powerful bitterness, especially towards the dry, smoky, burnt finish; a bit of cola as well. Very full, somewhat milky mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. Pretty good as far as this style goes I guess, but as usual the combination of very strong roastiness and strong bitterness just does not work that well for this drinker.
