Gangstergafje (1275) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - NOV 6, 2017
06-11-2017; bottle; at home (bought at a Supermarket in Rotterdam, The Netherlands). The looks of the beer are perfect. It has everything a stout should have. The color of the beer is pitch black on the eye. Even in strong light, hardly any color shows, accept for a tiny coppery brown/red glow on the edges. On top of the beer some soft and fine brown coloured foam is formed. Foam retention is rather low. Hardly any drape is left after a while. The smell of the beer is very nice. I like it. The smell contains some lovely malty aromas. I smell some chocolate and coffee, some caramel and loads of dark and red fruit. I also smell a pinch of hops. I love the combination of the coffee and roast with the strong fruits. There are very harmonious. The taste of the beer is heavenly. It is filled with strong malts. I taste chocolate, coffee, toast, barley, some caramel. The malt flavours are a lovely bittersweet. I also taste that lovely red and dark fruit, though milder than it was in the smell. The roast is stronger, which I like. Hops give a tiny freshness and a bitter twist. Lovely. The chocolate and coffee are very pure and one of the better I've had. Lovely, and incredibly balanced. The palate of the beer is nice. Full body, smooth texture and rather high carbonation. There is a lovely warming alcohol sensation, that in combination with the carbonation is a bit tingly, nice. The finish of the beer is lovely. It is nice and long, and filled with bitter roasty coffee, chocolate and some bitter hops. Lovely. All in all, a lovely beer. I'm happy with this one.

appearance: smooth, rich very dark brown, creamy tan head, medium lacing. aroma: smells great--chocolate, coffee, general roast, some wood and vanilla, a bit of earth. taste: dark chocolate, dry roasted coffee beans, a bit of talc and wet stone. finish: dry, full palate, alcohol well-hidden. notes: This is a solid, solid beer. Smells awesome, taste is just a titch below that. Fulsome, rich palate, smooth. Bottle from the Rare Beer Club.

Bottle at home, pouring total black opaque with a firm brown head. The aroma is full and fatty, nearly breathtaking, pàààff! Lot of elements in the nose, including wood, licorice, dark malts, choco. Taste is very alcoholic and fullbodied; medium sweet and light to medium bitter, light coffee notes. OK carbonation, soft oily/velvety mouthfeel. This is great! Very rich and nice RIS.
