Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermented, sourish and slightly salty-tasting ale that was first brewed in 1824. It is the beer specialty of Leipzig and the oldest still existing Gose brand in the world. Gose is an own, ancient style of beer that does not correspond to the German purity law. Even today, it is still brewed with an admixture of coriander and salt in the traditional way with the special historic Gose yeast in open fermentation. Its particular character our Gose gets thereby and by the additional lactate fermentation.
Brewed by Hartmannsdorf until 2014 (until 2007 @3.9%, then 4.2%), brewed by Reichenbrand in Chemnitz from 2015.
World Beer Awards London: World’s Best Gose 2013, Europe’s Best Gose 2014, World Beer Idol 2016: Gose Gold, World Beer Cup 2016: Bronze Medal

[ Trade by Koelschtrinker ]. Clear medium orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, apples puree, acidic - sour, moderate to light heavy hoppy, citrus - acidic. Flavor is moderate sweet, light light acidic and vinegar with a long to average duration, and a dry finish, refreshing. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. [20090110]

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2008 50 cL bottle, trade with kappldav123. Pours hazy orange with a slowly collapsing and white head. Mild citrus fruity aroma, mild infection perhaps? Flavour is mild milky, slight metallic and citric. Orange fruity mixed with salt. Ends citric and mild salty - quie tasty and worth some time.

RBESG2008: as Ohne Bedenken Originale Gose. Mild cornish aroma mild spiced. Salty flavour with a mild cornish note. Quite unique and tastes like saltwater mixed with a slight milky touch. Ends light acidic and cornish yet with a distinct salty sticking taste.6-3-6-3-13=13

[At RBESG 2006] An unclear orange beer with a beige head. The aroma is sweet and very spicy, but also with light notes of dust and salt. The flavor is sweet malty - I find it very sweet - and with notes of fruit - especially oranges - but also notes of the salt. I find the combination of fruit and salt very nice. Thanks Phil (MotelPogo) for bringing this.

This is an excellent pub in downtown Leipzig. It must be extremely rare for a pub to serve all three major German wheat beer styles (weizen, berliner weisse and gose), but this place does. And on top of this gose is the real shit. Pale orange and cloudy with average head in it's traditional long, thin glass. Acidic, lemony appley aroma. Mild acidity balanced by salt. Tart and lightly yeasty. Firm and refreshing, superbly drinkable with vital, elastic winegum finish. Stunningly unique and rich, yet so refreshing. Makes a trip to Leipzig worthwile. Please note that this is not the same beer as is available in bottle in the US.
