ALLOVATE (3063) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - NOV 29, 2015
Happoshu or ’bubbling spirit’ is an easier way to digest that this is a rice fermented beverage more than a beer, but here goes. Smuggled back from Taiwan. Translucent amber with a fine bead and whispy white foam. Aroma of gumboots - oh that is a first! Urinal cakes otherwise. It definitely doesn’t smell like the product it was fermented with. Frothy, foamy, calcium carbonate strong - at least I won’t get heart burn. Nothing in between. Distant malt. Distant grassy hops. Distant hipster that digs a beer like this! Look; nothing offensive as I can see this appealing to the masses, but meh!!! (35cL, can, BBE 06/16, Puro [?], Hai’an road, Tainan, Taiwan)

yenbeer (188) - Tokyo, JAPAN - JUN 4, 2015
Vile concoction, weak and ugly. That is, except for the smell and taste, quite full and ugly. Puke aroma, rotten cabbage taste. Avoid.

Erzengel (9467) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - MAY 23, 2015
Can in Macau. 5.5%. The beer starts slightly sweetish. Like all Orion beers, this has nearly the same taste: none. Watery grainy aftertaste. Very watery with hints of sweetish grain.

futre7 (256) - Taipei, TAIWAN - MAY 2, 2015
Even for a Haposhu it is bad. Tastes like soda water with some hops thrown in at the end. It is almost like some guy drank beer once and tried to recreate the taste from his memory.

JaKeAFC (1283) - ITALY - JUL 20, 2014
35 cl can from Wellcome in Hong Kong, i think 4.5% to 5.5% ABV, can’t understand exacly what it says. Clear light yellow color, big bubbly white head. Aroma is uncertain, with some sugary grains, apple, alcohol and cardboard, metallic bitterness. Light body, dusty finish.

biirusaikou (2705) - - JUN 11, 2014
Floral toilet paper. Cardboard, dry popcorn, wash-up liquid, watery finish. Pretty naughty, probably wouldn’t finish it without a pack of peanuts...

czlowiekwiadro (1102) - POLAND - MAY 29, 2014

petewhitley (570) - Nagoya, JAPAN - NOV 17, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 23, 2014 coffee, cereal, orange, clear, white foam, light sweetness, light body, thin feel, sticky, light body, flat. Watered down, flat and has virtually nothing in common with actual ~beer~. Very difficult to ascertain that this is actually an alcoholic beverage; the taste is reminiscent of apple juice left sitting overnight. Almost offensive aftertastes, as it seems to leave a sticky film coating your mouth and teeth. As a fairly regular happoshu drinker, this is bottom-of-barrel stuff.

faroeviking (11211) - Chupando chellas es como ellas, FAROE ISLANDS - MAY 13, 2013
Can from a souvenir store in central Naha, Okinawa. Clear yellow colour. Small white head. Mild mineral grainy aroma. Thin mouthfeel. Flavour is mild with mineral, grains, bit sweet. Mild short bitterness.

GoufCustom (2173) - HONG KONG - MAY 10, 2013

330 ml can bought at Sogo Freshmart in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Clear golden yellow colour; Thin head and white foam which last for about 1 minute; Minimal lacing and active carbonation; Aroma of malt, corn syrup, light rice, light bread and faint grass; Minimal light sweet taste of malt, with corn, rice, light rubber, light wet cardboard, and hint of citrus / bitterness; Light body, watery palate; Mouth feel is highly carbo beer-water with notable paint stripper / solvent, pretty uncomfortable, coupled with wet cardboard, this is bad; Hoppiness is faint grassy nose, trace of citrus in taste, and close to zero bitterness. Only fusel finish. Yuck! Slightly Dry after taste, very easy to mouth if you ignore the fusel.

Comments: As a happoshu, this one comes at an hefty import price tag but it’s faulted as hell - a fusel-driven beer-water with wet cardboard - makes me wonder why Japanese macros can hit so low and put fabulously-marketed crap such as this. Drain pour, of course.
