"The nose on this beer is ripe and fruity with slightly vinous esters, married to interesting hop notes - the colour of a glorious red ruby wine."

Tasted from tall brown bottle into nonic pint glass. Great artwork and design. It poured a dark reddish brown colour with thick, creamy, long-lasting beige foam, spritzy little bubbles and lots of fine lace. Beautiful appearance. Aromas of bread, toast, black plums and cherries, faint flowery and resiny hops. Flavors of malt, brown bread, caramel, toffee, dark stone fruits again, coffee and cream, dark chocolate, tangy hops balance, pleasant tartness, almost a faint sourness. Full-bodied, average carbonation, chewy mouthfeel, lingering, complex, bittersweet aftertaste. An exquisitely delicious beer in every way. Oh, how I long to taste a cask-conditioned version of this baby!

Interesting bottle. Boring beer. I expected much more from a Scottish ale import ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Shijonawate AEON Mall liquor shop. Nose of roast malt, smoke, dark fruit, phenols,(peated malt?). Dark reddish brown color, thin tan head. Roast malt, quite burnt and phenolic, chocolate, a thin berry note, red wine, smoke, and a small touch of soy sauce. Thin body, a bit oily. Unusual, dark, and slightly mysterious. Seems as if it could use a little more body and more alcohol to support the somewhat heavy flavors.

Ar: Very vinous; prune, blackberry jam; a bit of chocolate; toffee, with a nice true burnt edge. Ap: Dark brown, almost black; nearly opaque; medium light mocha head with moderate-low retention, leaves a nearly solid cap of medium suds. T: Lots of dark caramel, mingling with butterscotch; low sweetness; blackberry, slightly tannic; char and ash on the finish; bitterness is medium, with a hop flavor that is woody; tar and dark grapes throughout. P: Medium-light body with medium-high carbonation; finish is dry. O: A very good English dark ale; the punchy, deep caramel flavors work well with the moderate roast and background diacetyl; even with all the depth of flavor, the beer is very drinkable.

A reasonable pleasant beer, a lie sweet with caramel and milky malt. Body is a bit thin, otherwise fairly decent brew ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

En god ristet mørk smag af malt. Har en mild humlet smag som typisk britisk

Black or almost so. Average off-white head, ok retention and a bit of lacing. Nose is toffee malts with a slight chocolate hint and something like red/ripe fruits. Taste is slightly on the sweet side with toffee, caramel, slight chocolate, fruity hints and an underlying oakish note. Light to medium bodied with low to medium carbonation, slighty silky but not quite ’really’ silky. Quite easily drinkable and enjoyable with enough complexity to make it quite interesting.

Dark brown/black color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, oak, caramel, & licorice; Flavor of slight roasted sweet malt, coffee, caramel, licorice, some chocolate, and fruit; Fairly well balanced; Overall, flavor was a bit thin - but good aroma.

gopherfan99 (1996) - Minnesota, USA - MAR 26, 2017
Bottle; pours nearly black with a tan head; aroma of chocolate, malt, toffee, and a hint of coffee; taste is smooth with a light sweetness with chocolate, toffee, light roasted malt, and traces of coffee and dark fruits; semi dry finish with a touch of chocolate

cmacklin (1246) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 24, 2017
500ml bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with red hue and a small, creamy, short lived, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, toffee, figs and a hint of peat. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, toffee, dark chocolate, dried fruit and light peat with a bitter coffee finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad.
