"The nose on this beer is ripe and fruity with slightly vinous esters, married to interesting hop notes - the colour of a glorious red ruby wine."

Similar in aroma, body, and flavor to Traquair House, this is one of the most wonderfully aromatic beers I’ve ever had with oak, whisky, and smoky notes. Low alcohol, eminent drinkability and a dry finish kept me wanting more. It makes me long for a trip to the UK to try it cask conditioned.

A reasonable pleasant beer, a lie sweet with caramel and milky malt. Body is a bit thin, otherwise fairly decent brew ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

En god ristet mørk smag af malt. Har en mild humlet smag som typisk britisk

Black or almost so. Average off-white head, ok retention and a bit of lacing. Nose is toffee malts with a slight chocolate hint and something like red/ripe fruits. Taste is slightly on the sweet side with toffee, caramel, slight chocolate, fruity hints and an underlying oakish note. Light to medium bodied with low to medium carbonation, slighty silky but not quite ’really’ silky. Quite easily drinkable and enjoyable with enough complexity to make it quite interesting.

Dark brown/black color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, oak, caramel, & licorice; Flavor of slight roasted sweet malt, coffee, caramel, licorice, some chocolate, and fruit; Fairly well balanced; Overall, flavor was a bit thin - but good aroma.

Bottle; pours nearly black with a tan head; aroma of chocolate, malt, toffee, and a hint of coffee; taste is smooth with a light sweetness with chocolate, toffee, light roasted malt, and traces of coffee and dark fruits; semi dry finish with a touch of chocolate

cmacklin (1179) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 24, 2017
500ml bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with red hue and a small, creamy, short lived, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, toffee, figs and a hint of peat. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, toffee, dark chocolate, dried fruit and light peat with a bitter coffee finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad.

Pours black with beige head. Aroma is dry coffee. Taste is dry roast barley with slight acidity. Thin body. I preferred this to Dark Island Reserve, but both have a n unusual acidity, although this is no where near as pronounced and alot more palatable

colui72 (1033) - HONG KONG - FEB 25, 2017
Very dark brown, with a small white head. Aroma of sweet malts and ripe fruits. Slick mouthfeel, with caramel, roasted malts, ripe fruits and molasses. Medium bodied ale, easy to drink. Quite nice.

thejackpacker (454) - East Sussex, ENGLAND - FEB 9, 2017
Bottle from Asda. A very dark tasting, smokey finished beer. Surprisingly light.

nordic (639) - Tartu, ESTONIA - FEB 3, 2017
Bottle 0,5. Dark, almost black, small head. Aroma: roasted, caramel, toffee, hops. Taste: moderately roasted, toffee, coffee, chocolate. Good. Seems a bit more like stout than old ale.
