Cask, Chelmsford JDW. Descent white lacing. Chestnut brown appeaeance which reds out at the base. Cold espresso creme flavour. Caramel. Brown sugar. Very malty. One of the finest for its style. Well made and reliable despite a bit too top heavy on crystal malt. Loads of toffee. MissPxx (991) - Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 10, 2014
Gorgeous chocolatey aroma. Dark coal like colour. Thin and slightly syrupy. A lingering aftertaste.

dark ruby brown. Grey-tan head cocoa and cigarillo tobacco on the nose. Fairly sweet Dusty cocoa, medium bodied, red Apples, low condition, fruity, brown toast.
Tap, dark pour, beige head, nose is toffee, taste is toffee, not a great stout though. Benzai (16311) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - AUG 18, 2014
Sampled @ GBBF. Dark brown color, small beige head. Smell and taste malts, a slight sourness, roast. The sourness annoys me, shouldn’t be there I think. Average body and carbonation. Meh. Alengrin (5561) - BELGIUM - AUG 8, 2014
Scottish ale which, strictly speaking, falls under the old Scottish ’export’ (80/-) category. Light beige head, warm dark chestnut colour. Aroma of caramel malts, dried fruits and an obvious smokiness (peat?). Malty taste with dried fruits, candied dates, some coffee grounds, creamy mouthfeel, subtle smokiness, roasted bitter finish. Great Scottish ale. scotty (1218) - SCOTLAND - AUG 2, 2014
Handpump, Railway Tavern, Lower Largo. Very dark (and mysterious!) good off white head, finger thick and lasts well. Smooth malty beer, obviously in good nick here, very nice! gunnar (9333) - Sandnes, NORWAY - JUL 25, 2014
Cask at The Ferry Inn, Stromness. Pours almost pitch balck with a small weak tanned head. Aroma of dark, but weak roasted malts, some chocolate. Smooth and ceamy mouthfeel, light roasted malts with a weak sweet lactose note, nice and a good alternative to the bottled version.
