"Named after Thorfin Hausakliuuf, the seventh earl of Orkney, this reddish coloured ale has an intense vinous nose, is rich and satiny in the mouth with a long dry finish and deep rich fruity notes. Described as ’Satiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light and dangerously drinkable’."

This does actually remind me of highland park. A really nice barley wine with a full body and some smoky notes. Starts out sweet and then arrives to a dry hoppy finnish. On the negative side doesn’t actually split my skull in any way.

Sweet, malty, roasted smell and taste with only a little bitterness. Tasted like a cough drop with artificial strawberry after a while. "Deceptively light" as touted on the bottle to the point of watery. Not much depth otherwise.

Bottle. Pours orange gold with a huge rocky head. Substantial lacing. Low carbonation. Aromas of roasted caramel malts and earthy hops. Sweet caramel flavors upfront, toasted malts, a bit of dark fruit, brown sugar and lingering earthy flavors. Mild hoppiness. Substantially rich, malty and very smooth with noticeable alcohol warmth. This puts me in the mood for a warm seat near a cozy fire. Very nice.

Normally I’m not a scotch ale aficionado but Skull Spitter may have turned that around. Bought in the cool elevations of Montana and sampled in the ungodly heat of West Texas. The 16.9 oz bottle delivers in my snifter glass a bold amber liquid and a slim, lacey light-beige foam. The nose is reminiscent of a Belgian ale, malt, raisin and hard candy. A drink gives me more of the malt, plum, licorice, a hint of sweetness. It finishes dry with a small bitterness. Surprisingly good.

Bottle. Pours opaque medium-brown with light tan head that dissipates quickly. Plum and white raisin aroma. Raisin with some fig and plum notes with some mild alcohol warmth in the finish. Lighter body than expected.

Poured from bottle AROMA - raisin, fruit, brown sugar APPEARANCE - mahogany with lacing. FLAVOR - molasses, brown sugar, toasted malt, toffee, alcohol, citrus, earth, smoky notes. PALATE - full flavored- a sipper. OVERALL - I would buy again

A very solid Scotch. A little sweet, very malty with some nice dark fruit finish. Pours darker than expected.

Clear rust colored pour with a thick beige head and great retention. Decent lacing. Scotch nose. Heavy mouthfeel. Very strong scotch flavor with dark fruit notes. 8.5 ABV is obvious. Semi harsh. Too strong for me.

Could ramble on about this beer, but i’ll just say it’s a Meat and potatoes beer.

4.2
MNAle (189) - Minnesota, USA - APR 28, 2017
Dark ruby with a tan to off-white thick head, leaving nice lacing. Georgeous aroma of cherry, caramel, nutty, and more, with some alcohol in there, too. Moderate feel. Complex flavor, fruits - cherry, raisens - caramel, earthy and sweet, alcohol is obvious but not overpowering in the taste. The finish has fruits, malts, alcohol, and some bittering. The taste is very nice and complex - there is a lot going on here that is difficult for me to describe it all, but the combination is a really good Scotch ale.

3.5
PanMarek (438) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 22, 2017
Clear, deep reddish brown pour with moderate beige head that lasts along the side of the glass. Caramel malt is dominant in the nose but there are notes of dried fruit and alcohol. Medium body and fizz with a slightly dry finish. The sweet roasted malts at the beginning fades a little toward the end, preventing the beer from being too sweet.
