rougeau13 (3014) - Richmond, Texas, USA - JUN 13, 2015
AROMA: Medium strong dark malt. Slight coffee and/or chocolate scent. Noticeable sweet for a "dry" porter. Little to no hops. 8/12
APPEARANCE: Nearly opaque muddy brown. Small brown soapy head mostly dissipates. No lacing. 1/3
FLAVOR: Surprisingly mild compared to the nose. Some borderline sourness/tang up front. Sharp burnt toast or old coffee on the finish. Minor dry bitterness. No sweetness whatsoever. Some wet cardboard presence (oxidized). 8/20
MOUTHFEEL: Light/medium body; low carbonation. Slick texture. No alcohol warmth. Smooth but boring. 2/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: All signs point to old bottle, but no freshness date to verify. Probably decent fresh. 5/10
TOTAL SCORE: 24/50

At Disney, I’m assuming from a bottle poured in the back out of my line of vision as we circled The Land at Epcot. Poured black with dark brown at edges, slight head. Pleasant aroma of coffee, roasted malts. Flavor matched, with a light note of chocolate in the back as well. Medium bodied, dry, flavorful. Much like an Irish dry stout. Maybe it was because it was at the tail end of a line of totally uninspired brews, but this seemed really nice.
