COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle, 500ml. Fairly weak aroma: mostly alcohol with some chocolate, a touch of styrofoam, or perhaps Hollands & Barrett’s. Extremely dark in appearance, nearly opaque. Werther’s Originals’ coloured head. Head retention not fantastic. Initial taste was alcohol and chocolate, a little coffee at the end, but not too bitter. Some very slight sourness. Was quite lively in the mouth, for a stout. Couldn’t find any vanilla, personally. Overall, a good beer, but not outstanding for a stout.

(500ml bottle) Courtesy of MaryinT. Pours a creamy white head atop a black body. Nose hints of coffee and vanilla. Nice grittiness of cold, day-old coffee balanced by bitter cocoa powder and vanilla grinds. Very enjoyable, thanks Martin! --- reviewed on RateBeer.com

Bottle (500 ml). Black with a medium creamy dark brown head and nice lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate and vanilla. Taste is sweet and similar to aroma (dark chocolate, vanilla), but softer. Slight bitter/acidic finish (probably from the roasted malt). Mouthfeel is creamy but not as creamy and thick as the best of the style. Medium body. Not very complex but well balanced and fairly drinkable for the style. Good beer from Microbrasserie d’Orléans.

pootzboy (1760) - Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 8, 2012
500ml bottle the first rating of my stash brought back from Mondial. Pours a clouded pitch black with a decent cola colored cap. Modest carbonation. The aroma on this is mink deluxe – rich cocoa, coffee roastiness, burnt treacle sweetness, leafy hops. Sturdy body silken mouth feel. Chewy thick malting in front gives cereal roastiness balanced by resinous hopping but the middle gets rich luxurious with lots of complexity – fruits, cherry skins, walnuts, pipe tobacco, burnt treacle – goes to a long wet finish with increasing bittering matching roasty astringence. A world class stout from a world class crafter.

Bottle. Pours thick and black, with a quarter-inch brown head. Roasty, chocolate, and vanilla aroma. Taste is on the sweet side; coffee, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, and slight leather and soy sauce notes. Chewy and full-bodied, with mild carbonation. Good stuff.
