COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Orpheus, we stand by our motto, “Don’t look back”. That can mean having to experiment with new ingredients and techniques. For Hop Experiment #1, we focused on a new hop, Hallertau Blanc. Hallertau Blanc is named after Sauvignon Blanc, and this beer gets the same bright gooseberry and grass flavor that you would expect from the wine.

Food pairing
Though not as dry and acidic, Hop Experiment #1 would pair with many of the same foods as a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It will complement fresh greens, and pair nicely with herbaceous Mexican or Greek food.

Composition
Hops: Hallertau Blanc
Grain: Golden Promise, two row barley, white wheat
Fermentation: American Ale yeast
ABV: 7%

On tap at Taco Mac. Slghtly cloudy golden pour with offwhite head. Light fragrant citrus aroma with lemongrass. Taste is a mellow bitter and slightly sweet. Soft carbonation and medium light body. Interesting twist on an ipa.

11oz pour @ TacoMac Windward. Golden pour. Fruity nose. OmFg, the flavor. Tastes of tropical fruits. Huge hop domination of flavor. Very mild bitterness, perfect balance. (4309)

Draft at Lazy Dog. Pours hazy light gold with a bubbly white head and lots of lacing. Tastes like resin, grapefruit, grassy, light vegetable. Smells like sweet grapefruit.

Tap. Pours clear gold with creamy white head. Aroma is heavy grapefruit, spicy hops, toast, and some grassiness. Flavor is dry malts, grapefruit esters, faint caramel sweetness, and some grassy hop bitterness. Medium body and carbonation.

Pours an appetizing clear amber with a respectable pale buff head. aroma is strongly hoppy, mainly evergreen, demanding a taste. Flavor delights with evergreen hoppy and smooth malty tones, as well as minimal bitterness and sweet touches. Mouthfeel has average thickness but fizz from here to California (as my friends up in Mississauga loved to say!) Hop to this worthy experiment.

Growler from the beer growler. Tropical but a littel muted. Pineapple and tangerine. Creamy flat texture on the finish. The danger of the single hop is that one aspect doesn’t come through perfectly throughout the palate. This one doesn’t quite follow through too well on the finish but mid palate is pretty tasty.

Tap at Lazy Dog. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a layer of cream colored head. Aroma and taste of basic malts, grass, and some hops.

12 oz draft pours a hazy orange color with a nice white head. Aromas of light citrus, grass, like a combination of sauvignon blanc wine and an IPA. Medium bodied, refreshing and very good.
