3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours clear/hazy light copper. Extremely intense head. Doesn’t look really think, though. Good retention.
Aroma is mainly yeast -- apple esters galore! -- and herbal hops. Taste is more balanced than what aroma suggests : much more malty, actually. Really dry -- a summer trappist, actually?
Problem is : never, ever drink this one cold. Extremely thin body + a cabonation that seems to kick a lot at cold temperature makes if for an extremely bland experience. This is a beer that’s better drank over 10 degrees, and, really, dont waste time drinking it cold. So, a good hour after the first sip... much better, but still a bit too thin for my tastes. Overall --- it’s good, but I was disappointed.
Fles @ Littel Delirium, Amsterdam. Fijn schuimend biertje met witte schuimkraag en bananen smaak.zwaar geel troubelekleur biertje. Smaakt gewoon zacht bloemig en vooral fruitig en subtiel naar de eerder genoemde banaan.

I’ve been procrastinating in trying this for years now. Finally picked it up after seeing users: "fonefan" and "yespr" both giving it a perfect rating. Pours a golden copper; aroma/taste: Belgian yeast, dates, plums, citrus and tropical fruits. Crisp dry finish. brew81 () - Ontario, CANADA - JUL 22, 2017
UPDATED: JUL 22, 2017 This ranked as my second favourite beer in Belgium, behind the Westy 12. Age it in the cellar for 2+ years and it is nothing short of amazing. mariusi (8) - ROMANIA - JUL 22, 2017 does not count
UPDATED: JUL 22, 2017 Sour, not very drinkable, very overated, does not really taste like beer. Followed the temperature guidelines. KraftowyJakup (330) - POLAND - JUL 21, 2017

Hazy orange with large head. Aroma of citrus, spices. HIgh carbonation. Taste is funky, lots of spices, oranges, herbs. Quite dry. Pretty complex. Maits (479) - ESTONIA - JUL 21, 2017
Little cloudy orange beer with white and thick head. Aroma is sour fruity, yeasty. Taste is nice sweet sugar and yeast, apple. Medium body. Nice beer with good dry finish. Towey1989 (2829) - Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, ENGLAND - JUL 20, 2017
Bottle at BeerDock Leek. Pours a slightly hazy orange colour with a thick white head. Aroma of green apple, yeast, some sourness, slight funk, a little barley sugar and subtle spice. Taste of straw, barnyard, yeast, some funk, slight barley sugar, a hint of green apple and subtle spice. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation. A dry, slightly funky, spicy bitterness in the finish. A quintessential Belgian Trappist ale. Made with wild yeasts which I can get in the aroma and the initial flavour. Great. carlom (58) - ITALY - JUL 16, 2017
Anno 2016. Colore giallo arancio, schiuma media persistente, elevata carbonazione, bolle piccole e medie. Sentori caramella, pelle di salame, aciditá evidente. Al palato malto, vaniglia, note fruttate. Corpo medio leggero, delicata sechezza, retrogusto leggermente amaro. Una birra particolare nel panorama trappista caratterizzata da un accenno di aciditá e da una amabile secchezza , da decifrare ma comunque interessante. lily48 (2) - - JUL 14, 2017 does not count
For me, Orval is the best beer in the world (at least of all the many beers I have tasted). It is so unique amongst the Trappist beers. The bottle itself is a piece of art.
It is not too strong, very tasty, perfectly bitter. Just impeccable. You can drink it room temperature (recommended) or cold. Excellent all year round, mid-day, afternoon, or evening.
Best to drink Orval in its glass.
