In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.
Bottled at 5.2% abv - can go up as high as 7.2%

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2006 Original tasting 12/7/04, rerate 02/07/05, rerate 02/04/06. 330ml brown bottle. Poured cloudy orange, fantastic head and lacing. Earthy, leathery and fruity aromas with lots of sweet orangey, floral hops. Flavour is earhty malts with sweet orange hop flavours, slightly herbal/medicinal qualities. Hoppy bite leads to a dry finish with some yeast. Everytime I have this it gets better and better.

Bottle. Hazy orange colour with stable white head off. Aroma of funky yeasts, sweet. Taste is semidry, yeasts, caramelized sugar, some fruits. Nice

0.33 l bottle. Light hazy orange-amber colour. Thick but low-lasting off-white foam. Dominant fruity (yellow-orange fruits) aroma, with a light herbal note. Light malty flavour. Low bitterness. Dry ending and medium-high carbonation make the 6.2% Abv seem higher. A complex, interesting and sophisticated beer.

Bottle from Alko, aged slightly over 6 months. Hazy medium brown with strong nature white head. Leaves, barnyard and basement aromas from the yeast. Malty with unspecific fruityness, leaves grass and herbs. Full body with slightly sticky palate. Somehow this always associates with fish food.

One of the best trappist beers. Rich, aromatic, like session trappist beer. This exact alcohol abv 6.2 gives the great option for drinking it on winter and also on summer. Last version (newest) I think a not as good as the older versions. I hope these guys not to ruin the Orval art. Good beer for put in cellar to age.Very balanced in total.

Couleur légèrement ambrée. Mousse onctueuse.

I was looking forward to try this very popular one. I’m not sure what the big hype is about. It lacks the smoothness of the belgian ale, a bit too bitter for me for this category.
