In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.

Pale hazy orange colour Huge white foamy head. Aromas of banana, lemon, This stays at the front of the mouth, doesn't quite fill it out, and only last a second, I see where the "dryness" description comes from. Diff style than the other Belgians but not quite for me, lacks the body and structure you'd expect. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: NOV 13, 2017 Bottled 27/04/2016. Pours clear orange amber with a large, loose frothy white head. The aroma has farmyard funk, it’s fruity, malty, spicy, yeasty, light hops. The taste is wonderfully complex - fruity, malty, yeasty, spicy, bready, light grassiness. Medium bodied, generous frothy carb. Dry, funky, fruity finish. Rightly a classic. It’s not a beer I’ve always enjoyed but I’m definitely growing to appreciate its wonderful nuances now.

A weird one. As per the commercial description "In contrast to all others....". I guess you love it or you're flummoxed. I never thought I'd say this about a beer but there's a distinct hint of thai fish sauce in the aroma! The fish on the bottle was a warning. Apparently it pays homage to the legend of Orval. Let's face it, the taste does too.

Rich golden in color and phenomenal in taste and on the nose. Hoppy with a sweet aftertaste - think IPA crushed with a candied Weiss beer. Pure drinkability. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the 2015 bottle. Pours dark orange with a tall, foamy head. Aroma is cherry, citrus, spice .. tomato, kind of funky. Taste is mildly bitter/sour with a dryness that stays constant throughout. Smoke undertones. Chalky. Finishes tart with a hint of warmth. Body is medium with a pronounced carbonation. It’s pretty good and has a fair bit of complexity but I‘m not overwhelmed.

When you realise after ~5000+ ratings that a beer you’ve used in tastings to trach people about beer is actually one you had never bothered to rate... Pours cloudy to hazy orange amber with tall white head. Aroma of herbs, spices, coriander, wheat, dried fruit. Taste is herbal, peppery, slightly funky finish with hop and fruit notes. Light and smooth body with average carbonation.

Bottle from 100 piv. Aroma: grapefruit, tangerines, ripe fruit, Brett, spice, malty sweetness. Orange color, big long lasting white head, dry end, light to medium body, higher carbonation. Taste: ripe fruit, Brett, spice, earthy and herbal hop notes, slightly alcohol, nice medium bitterness.

12 oz bottle. Yeast smells and some alcohol. Pours a cloudy honey brown with a huge pillowy white head. Big round tastes of yeast and leather, slight barnyard and sours all balanced really nicely. Oily mouthfeel with more than average carbonation. Dry finish. A very good belgian.
