4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is in my view the best Trappist on the world. Orval even looks good with a great foam head and a nice dark pale color. Great Strisselspalt nose and balanced taste with a long lasting hoppy aftertaste. The hard hop is more expressive in an Orval older than 6 months.

Dark golden, cloudy beer with high carbonation. Complex aromas - sweet caramel, slightly vinous, slightly sour, slightly spicy, slightly funky. Taste matches this with sweet, fruity, citrus sweetness but kept in check by big hop presence for a Belgian beer. High carbonation makes this very refreshing and drinkable. Long dry finish.
Very clearly a Belgian beer with its yeast character but hop presence is surprising. A great beer to pair with Iberico ham; complementing the sweetness of the meat and cutting through the saltiness. Jabic (612) - Plainfield, Vermont, USA - AUG 10, 2017
Ar: Hay, dried malt, peach pits; a bit of barnyard, some herbal hops; chalk and leather. Ap: Copper and clear; massive mousse-like head, lasts forever, formed like rising dough. T: Peach and orange ring; hint of black pepper; clove, grass, and moss; spicy hay and a light smokiness; very little sweetness; bitterness is high, fairly clean, with a moss and herb flavor; the finish is smoke, black pepper, and peach skins. P: Medium-light body with very high carbonation; finish is very dry. O: Lives up to the legendary status; very complex yet quaffable; dry, phenolic, fruity, and funky all at once. Bottle. Cloudy orange/amber beer with a big lasting off-white head. Vinous aroma with notes of fruit, malt, yeast. Flavour the same ending on a slight yeasty, malty note with slight sourness. Slight alcohol warmth in the throat. A good, well balanced beer! zizivan (13) - SLOVENIA - JUL 30, 2017
Pear, rotten fruit, spicy, light medicinal, a lot of carbonation and foam, light candy and some bitterness, a unique classic.
