Bottle conditioned, back home. Pours deep, opaque copper slicked with beige. Lightly lactic, mouldering leaf matter aroma with some lurking plum and pear tones; rhubarb and custard sweets. Continues sweet and slightly acidic with a squishy milk chocolate- coated cranberry character; some pleasant, earthy berry skin notes more akin to a yeasty English or Belgian effort. Slightly buttery, dunked milk choc digestive afters. Coal -powdered rhubarb, iron licks. Alive, slippery, a bit dank. Peters into wateriness. Misses the bittering presence of an alt maybe, but decent. KyotoLefty (10254) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAY 18, 2009
Bottle. Dark amber to medium brown. Tall, fine head. Faint aroma, of fruit, amber malt, caramel. Good hops. Very fruity flavor, with cherries, a touch of caramel and chocolate. Medium sweetness. Slightly roasted, amber malt, overall impression is dry. Dry, malt and slight hop finish. Pretty nice. One of the better Japanese alt beers, though not up there with the best in Dusseldorf.
