Bottle. Coffee, chocolate malt, and hay aroma. Black with large tan head. Mildly sweet coffee, chocolate malt, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Okay body. Aldi’s US is THE place to pick up a palatable discount sixer.

33cl bottle. Pours a dark brown/black with a large tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate and herbs. Flavor is roasty/peaty, black pepper, bit of acid, orange, weird. Meh...

csaso (2361) - Missouri, USA - MAR 8, 2017
Bottle - good size beige foamy head, black color, big roasty malt aroma and flavor, mold coffee notes, pretty traditional stout, good overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Patrickctenchi (6807) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - FEB 18, 2017
Bottle: Pours black with a frothy tan head. Dark coffee roast, cola, aroma. Slightly tangy, bitter coffee malt, slightly over-cooked coffee bitter, cola flavour. A very decent, bargain-priced, simple stout.

So far it’s the best beer according to price/value that I was able to find in Cork. And I think that it’s very popular - today is the first day for the two weeks when I saw it in Aldi among other O’Sheas ales. This is what guinness stout should be.

stravale (3145) - Co. Westmeath, IRELAND - JUL 29, 2015
Bottle from Aldi, Carrick-on-Shannon [110715]
Black, frothy bubbly tan head, good lacing
Aroma og soft dark malts, smooth mellow roast, touch of dark toffee, soft coffee, mocha notes
Taste of dark quite rich malts, more roast but still mellow, dark bitter chocolate, soft coffee, sweet dark malts, dark chocolate malts, tasty
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, smooth, good mouthfeel, soft sweet. Finish of smooth dark chocolate malts, some soft roast
Overall - Best of the O’Shea’s bunch. Better than O’Hara’s Irish Stout. Sort of a lower abv version of Leann Follain. Good stuff. PS Did have some more 2 weeks later, not quite as good, more burnt bitter finish and a little rough (3.3), but will try again soon

Carlowxxx (140) - Carlow, IRELAND - JUN 23, 2015
Brewed for Aldi. Absolute black,no hard: decent chocolate taste, rich, milky, coffee chocolate finish, this a nice bottle 1.89

culchiem (4237) - Berlin, GERMANY - JUN 5, 2015
Bottle. Black with a tan head. Aroma is toasted malt. Toasted malt, coffee, a bit thin.

MrJamesMcEwan (252) - SCOTLAND - DEC 28, 2014
Bottle. Pours very deep black, with a tan head that disappates. Full bodied, high carbonation, fine bubbles. Aroma is strong of roasted malt, smoky coffee & pine. Taste is roasted malts, & roasted coffee. Palate is dry & too high in carbonation. Finish is malty roasted malts, then slightly drys. Too high in carbonation and too rich in roasted coffee.
