Draft. Medium beige head atop cloudy copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, some whiskey, light vinous, toffee. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, grape, some whiskey, light vinous. Sticky medium-full body, low carbonation. Lost too much of the lovely underlying beer.

On tap. Poured a deeper and cloudy / muddy amberish color with an averaged sized frothy off white head. Aromas of whiskey, woody, pine, vanilla, and some caramel. Tastes of whiskey, wood/oak, vanilla, citrus, sugary, and caramel. I liked this one.

Coles Rare beer fest. Lacey cask. Scotch and bourbon tastes is there, with above average mouthfeel. Dark, drinkable.Mellow for certain for a DIPA.

DocLock (11236) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 12, 2009
Draft at Capone’s. Pours turbid coppery brownish with minimal off-white head. Nose is hoppy, citric, with heavy earthy caramel malty and oaky cognacy fruity notes. Tastes caramel malty, bready, with solid hops, citrus, pronounced fruity oaky spirits, and a hefty, complex palate. Very good, and very well balanced.

jercraigs (11166) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 28, 2009
2009-01-24. Dark brown-mahogany body, headless. Bourbon barrel in the aroma, more vanilla and wood and bit less bourbon than the others. Flavour is likewise endowed with a lot of vanilla and wood, light malt middle, light bitterness in the finish. Lingering bourbon in the aftertaste. Average plus palate. Decent. Tap at Coles Rare Beer Fest, Buffalo

(My version was aged in a Breckenridge Whiskey barrel) Cloudy, murky brownish amber, very thin cap head. Nose is a bit sharp with a floral/grass pollen note and something like windex with a very earthy rustic caramel. Taste was big on oak and whiskey char, with a backing sweetness of caramel and loads of dry hoppy windex-like tones. Thought I could get over that Windex character but its not very charming. Lots of malty oak tones cover it up the best they can, but that hop character mixed with whiskey just don’t quite work for me.

Name: Gordon, Oak Aged
Date: March 10, 2007
Mode: Draft
Source: Brick Store Pub
Appearance: opaque orange, lasting creamy cream colored head, thick lace
Aroma: sweet grapefruit aroma arives before you pick up the glass, a hint of vanilla brings out the sweetness in the citrus, as it warms the oak aroma blossoms
Body: creamy body
Flavor: very creamy and smooth sweet caramel malt flavor with an abundance of hop flavor, an oaky aspect blends in nicely with the hop flavor and lasts through a long bitter finish, just a hint of vanilla in the background, the oak really complements the normal sticky sweetness to bring it in balance with the hops while still retaining some of the stickyness, perfect bitterness level

Name: Gordon, Bourbon
Date: June 19, 2007
Mode: Hand Bottled
Source: Brick Store Pub
Appearance: opaque rusty brown
Aroma: sweet caramel malt aroma with lots of sweet hops and light oak
Body: sticky sweet body
Flavor: the caramel and bourbon combine to create a perfectly balanced sweet malt flavor base, lots of sticky sweet pine blends with the malt, a hint of vinally brings out more sweetness
Overall: a pleasant surprise as I expected a bourbon IPA to be overwhelmed by the bourbon but this one balances nicely

blipp (10120) - La Mesa, California, USA - JAN 25, 2009
Draft at Cole’s in Buffalo, NY. Pours murky orange brown with a thin head. Whiskey on the nose with a touch of hoppy sweetness. The flavor has a nice restrained bourbon sweetness with a bit of a floral hoppy bite. The balance between the two is spot on, and makes for a pretty interesting beer.

3.5
mabel (10011) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 17, 2009
[1961-20090124] Tap. Not much aroma, some mild fruity malt and faint whiskey hints. Clear, dark brown amber body with no head. Whiskey vanilla malt continues in the flavour with some underlying double IPA characteristics and a long sweet heavy finish. Medium-full body. Nice, sweet and heavy.
