COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our ’Velvet M-80’ is a hefty, dry hopped double-red ipa with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle and unctuous hop flavors. G’Knight sports a surprisingly sensuous finish for a beer of its size (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs). It’s brewed in tribute to a fellow Colorado craft beer pioneer and Vietnam vet who died fighting a 2002 wild fire outside of our Lyons hometown. In ’03 I tasted batch one @ 9.5%, aged a year in it’s 25 oz corked bottle. It was much more malty than this one, a fresh hop bomb in a can. This pours a rich gold color times three. Low flying aromas of citrus and sweet carmel malt. The malty flavors then douse any thirsty fires. Long astringent, bitter finish. I never met him, but I can hear the twisted renegade spirit howling.

Deep ruby red, light brown, clear, offering a frothy off white head with good lacings. Aromas of caramelised hay and pine develops, sweet mushy bread notes and dark fruit adds to the complexity. Fine carbonation, smooth and slick with a pronounced sweetness upfront offering a nice bitter hit at the back of the palate making it a very drinkable beer. Lasting light sticky yet pleasant finish.

Can 355ml, a clear copper beer with low head. Nose is intense in hop resin and coconut oil, caramel, sugar. Aroma is intense on hop resin, pine, mango, coconut oil, robust body quite sweet, more a dipa than an apa. Anyway good and strong but clearly overrated.
