Each year GUBNA takes on a personality of its own. We seek out the most exciting and best available hops from each individual season to create a potent and complex Imperial IPA. GUBNA is packed with Rye and North American Pale Malt and accented with Munich Malt to give a spicy and flavorful backbone to support loads of kettle hops driving the IBUs to triple digits.
** This beer will now feature different hops in the massive dry hop every year.
2015 - Features whole leaf Galena hops, plus Sorachi Ace and Columbus hops. Dry hopped with copious amounts of El Dorado, Comet and Chinook.

Pours clear gold with an average, creamy cream colored head, medium retention and good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, caramel, toasted), heavy hops (floral, citrus), and average esters (apple/pear). Flavor is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toasted), heavy hops (floral, citrus, spicy), average esters (apple/pear) with notes of pineapple. Full body, medium warmth, high carbonation, low creaminess and a dry and biting finish.

A Sim rate (on tap at the Blind Tiger, NYC): Bold, sharp aroma that smacks of alcoholic malt, soap & citric hops. Serious alcohol in there - hence the tiny glass they gave me. Peach and rose in there too, but sucked up by the alcohol. Flavour yells alcohol. Hints of peach and citric fruit. It gets great rates and the regulars at the bar were keen on it. But I really think the alcohol lets it down. Sweet, but uber strong. Finish is acidic & peachy. I feel harsh giving a 6 for flavour, but the alcohol really kills it. It’s ok, but really nothing to rave about.

In short: Another sweet fruity IPA. Ok.
How: Can 12oz. Consumed fresh a few days after purchase
The look: Clear light golden body topped by a small white head leaving good lacings
In long: Strong nose of fruity hops, mostly citrusy hops but also some grapefruit notes. Taste has a lot of sweet citrus fruits, some caramel, some pine tree, some grapefruits. A little too much residual sugars (white sugar sensation). I got a rye sensation from the malt backbone but I don’t think this beer uses rye. Alcohol is a bit apparent but not bothersome. Carbonation is medium and body is a bit oily. Bitterness level is medium. Overall this to me was just another sweet Double IPA. Lots of people like these. Me, not so much. With that level of sweetness and booze I need ultra assertive hops to balance it out. I think this beer would benefit from a better attenuation. I’m glad I thought of it before you read it.

Sampled at GABF. Hazy gold with a nice white head. Aroma of citrus, pine and florals. Flavor of some caramel sweetness with lots of hops. Some bitterness. Excellent.

12 oz can, caned in June of 2010, purchased from Total Wine in Gilbert, AZ.
Hazy golden orange. Creamy tan head leaves beautifuly paterned lace on the glass.
Aroma is sweet malt followed by a blast of citrusy hops.
Flavor is mostly hops. Citrus pith, grapefruit juice, some malt and alcohol.
Not very complex or ballanced, but still tasty.

Sample at SBWF 2010. Overdose of flavors, but without complexity. Cloying and very bitter at the same time. I like lots of hops, but I’m not sure I could finish a whole can of this. Great for a few sips though.

I had been looking for a 300th beer to rate and this one fits the bill. I had seen this on the shelf several times but the high pricetag ($15 a 4-pack) scared me off. Well, it looks like I’ll be spending more on beer because this Gubna is awesome all the way through. It is light copper in color, with an intricate lace on the top. The aroma is the best since Bell’s Hopslam, with grapefruit and Asian Orange Chicken predominant. The alcohol is high and it tastes like it. Texture oily, spicy, bitter. Taste is herbal (anise), Florida citrus, and bready. Leaves a nice aftertaste, velvety. It comes in a can too so that should make for some nice lazy afternoons, drifting down the Guadalupe River in an inner tube, with class. So BAM! there’s my rating no. 300.

Another great can from these guys. Bright juicy pour with creamy, tight head. Nose is a huge, wonderful, dense and syrupy citrus. Tangerine, pineapple, grapefruit. My brother says "Pog juice" (pineapple, orange guava) .. he might be right. Sip is strong and heavy, juicy coating and well hidden alcohol. Warms on the backend and finishes nicely bitter but with big flavor. Really terrific, and that aroma is to die for.

pressboxjoe (464) - , New Jersey, USA - SEP 27, 2010
Can. Big fluffy lasting head, cloudy. Aroma woody, pineapple, orange, floral. Just wish the flavor were a bit bigger. At $14.49/4-pack this has got to be better, and that doesn’t mean it’s bad. A bit green tasting, but nicely bitter, with a pleasant sweet/sourness wrapping around the sides of the tongue.

Sammy (12212) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 26, 2010
Better than expected, under control, high IBU but still nicely drinkable. Carbonation right there. Deep yellow coloured body with off-white head. Hop aroma.
