12 oz can into a pint glass.
A: Pours a light copper color. This features a nice head, about two fingers high and off-white colored. The retention is quite strong given its gravity, and the texture is nice and fluffy.
S: It’s dank as fuck - this really brings back memories of Devil Dancer. But there’s also a lot of malt sweetness to it, as well. On the other hand, I seem to note a lot of alcohol, unfortunately. This one could really go any way in the flavor profile...
T: Much sweeter than what the nose indicated. It opens with a lot of caramel, toffee, and dark fruit sweetness. Alcohol is prevalent but not remotely harsh, however it is pretty intrusive. Dank, resiny hops (and yes, even some onion) are only a subtle backing to all of the malt sweetness. Ah well, it’s not exactly fresh, so I can’t complain too much.
M: Sweet, but not that heavy - or even that resinously bitter, really. Given its sweetness, it’s pretty easy to down for a 10% DIPA. It could use a bit more carbonation to help cleanse the finish better.
O: I’ll have to re-try this one fresh. It’s pretty much turned into a World-Class Barleywine™ at only three months, only with "Sweet and Simplistic" replacing the "World-Class" part.
cloudy amber color; super citrusy hop aroma; bitter and super hoppy; tons of citrus hop flavor - for true hopheads only; fairly easy drinking at 10% abv ads135 (5215) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - NOV 19, 2017
Very solid imperial IPA. Tried for the first time at the tasting room in 2010. Pours dark golden, thick hop body with some pine and grapefruit. Very evenly balanced and aggressively boozy. beern (238) - Alabama, USA - AUG 12, 2017
Pours yellow and translucent with a nice 4-finger frothy white head with a rich aroma of pine and citrus. Tastes of a rich malt backbone upfront with a mild hop finish. It’s medium to full bodied and is somewhat viscous with very little carbonation. The alcohol is fairly well hidden. Bacchus66 (1006) - South Carolina, USA - JUL 16, 2017
Crowler acquired at the source. Pours bright clear orange with a foamy off white head that fades to a persistent cap, good lacing. This has a resiny, fruity nose with some malty notes. Flavors are juicy bitter citrus, caramel malts, grain. Sweet midpalate, medium carbonation. Long lingering finish with a bitter orange kick about halfway through. Excellent stuff. I got an old Gunba but it's still great - papaya, pineapple and mango with well disguised strength. A magnificent brew.

(Rating #7480) Niko100 (3012) - Chicago, New York, USA - MAR 30, 2017

Can, unfortunately I’ve had this one a few times over the years. Seems like its still a rough one after trying it recently. Pours an orange shade with average head. Nose is sweet malt, booze heat, fire, spicy rye and old hops. Flavor most of same with an astringent close and ffaoe (1018) - Moorestown, New Jersey, USA - MAR 15, 2017
very strong malty aroma. gold in color with huge long lasting head. balanced but very strong malt and hop flavors. rich caramel malt flavors vs. piney resinous hops flavors. shawnmurphy (673) - Plattsburgh, New York, USA - MAR 3, 2017
12-ounce can pours a clear orange-gold color with a three-finger thick, foamy head that settles down to one finger after a few minutes, leaving behind lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is pineapple, mango, honeydew melon and hot buttered sweetbread. Flavor is all the above, but more so, plus candied orange, honey and caramel. It’s both very sweet and very bitter, yet not cloying or astringent – perhaps due to the addition of rye as a grain to give it a spiciness. Body is full, mouthfeel is oily and creamy with some prickly carbonation. This is a 1O percent ABV brew that drinks like its half its weight. Dangerous!
