COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Old Chub is a Scottish style ale brewed with copious amounts of crystal and chocolate malts, and a dash of beechwood-smoked malts. While Dale's Pale Ale ("the best-tasting canned beer I've ever had," according to many brewers and beer experts) is a showcase of both hops and pale malts, Old Chub is a celebration of malts. The cola-colored beer features a dense, tawny head, a creamy mouthful and flavors of caramel, chocolate and lightly roasted malt. Complex and rich, it finishes with a whisper of smokiness that calls to mind a fine single malt scotch. Old Chub weighs in at 8 % alcohol by volume.

Great for a style I don’t normally choose. Sweet, almost plum-like aroma. Dark color with small head. Sweetness up front with a licorice sharpness that I associate with Scottish ales. Not much hops presence. Palate is smooth but sticky. There is a dessert character to this. It’s good and has a heaviness that limits it’s pairing with some foods. More of a sipper.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2018 Interesting brown ale. Tastes like scotch whiskey before distillation... or at least that is what it seemed like. Nice change from hoppy IPAs, stouts and pale ales.

Can. Caramel malt aroma with notes of chocolate, roasted malt and smoke. Pours dark caramel colored with a thin light brown head that has good retention and excellent lacing. Starts with caramel and chocolate malt sweetness. Finishes smooth with roasted malt and smoky flavors. Pretty nice scotch ale.

Nice brown color with a thick head of foam. Not too sweet and not too bitter, balanced flavor. Could not taste any smokiness as in the description.

Pours dark, caramelly brown. Good , stable, off white, bit fluffy head. Some lacing . Smell is bit complex, toffee, cocoa ( not roasty !) Bit creamy. Taste is creamy, bit slick ( mild diacetyl is appropriate in style though ) highly aromatic. Toffee, mild bitterness. Minor caramelly notes. Creamy mf , medium thick. Low to medium low carbo.alcohol is very hidden, clean fermentation profile. No hoparoma.

0,355l can from Beer Republic. Pours dark brown color with medium head. Aroma of rich maltness, slightly roasted, and sweetness in chocolate, vanilla, syrup and bourbonish tones, and slight fruitiness and wood. Taste is mostly in line with aroma, a bit complex maltiness and sweetness, with a bit of bitterness to back it up. Slight smokiness that reminds me of whiskey now that I read of it, especially in the aftertaste.

Old chub is the first and only scotch ale I’ve ever tried. Remind me of a porter. Thick maltey and dark it’s a beer that you would only want to drink one or maybe two of ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Malty, caramel, light vanilla, some chocolate, surprisingly fruity, good complexity, tasty, well balanced, not too sweet as feared. Didn't notice the smoke. Light, grainy aftertaste.

12floz, COD: 10.25.2017, $1.75 unit cost, pint glass. 'Ppears chestnut brown with a mighty foam. T'is here foam leaves its film behind as I consumeth. A lil' aroma gives off a general mild roasted character. Notable features are th' walnut and gently burnt (toasted) bread flavors. D'cent full bodied 'merican scotch ale, though I prefer the creaminess of the nitro. Unfortunately, it ain't been 'round these parts for quite some time. D'pendin' on the mood t'is could be be a l'il more favorable, or much less so like in the summer.
