Draft. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid smooth malty aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy balanced bittersweet flavor with a medium smooth bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid brew.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of Skyview. Thanks! Pours a dark brown color with a creamy medium sized offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is toffee with an almost roasty note. Taste is very strong with the peat with an almost vegetal character along with caramel and toffee. Some roastiness as well. Medium bodied. Peculiar. Interesting. Decent.

(Rating #4,800) Bottle... GSRARO Throwdown... Dark, murky ale (burnt orange when held up to bright light) with a small, creamy, lightly tanned head. Decent retention. The nose provides caramel, dark fruits and light molasses. Light to medium-bodied and fizzy. Well-balanced... too much so, for the style. Lightly sweet, modestly bitter and mildly tangy. Finishes crisp and lightly bitter. Thanks to juiceisloose for sharing this bottle!

arminjewell (9635) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - APR 29, 2011
Pours hazy reddish brown with off white head. Aroma has notes of sweet toffee, vanilla, caramel, nice milk chocolate, and a touch of smoke. Taste yields much more smoke, along with roast and sweet chocolate, some toffee and burnt caramel, finishing roasty and slighly sweet. Very enjoyable.

Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 27, 2009
On tap at Sugar Maple. Poured deep, murky brown with a thick cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweeter chocolate and toasty coffee with peaty accents.. well-balanced and more like a dry stout with light sours and smoke. The flavor found toasted coffee and chocolate at the core with smoky milk chocolate and vanilla around.. sweeter on the back with some residual smoke.. excellent, memorable finish. Medium-bodied and dry on the palate with great balance.. I could drink this all day!

vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - DEC 7, 2011
Bottle. Dark brown pour with a touch of tan head. Darker malt oak and peat aromas. Woody favors with some darker malt tones.

CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 14, 2009
Bottle: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a small ring of light tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet dark caramel malt and some earthy almost vegetal peaty notes with a hint of tartness. Taste is more rewarding than the nose with a good rich smoky peatiness and some mild dark caramel sweetness before a drier, semi-tart finish. Decent attempt at the style, but would be better with more sweetness and less tartness.

riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - JAN 30, 2011
Bottle shared by bvc. Interesting nose of toffee, dark fruity malts, light peat, and a touch of roast. Pours dark brown, lacking in much head or lace. The flavor is less interesting than the aroma, mostly toffee and some dark fruity malt. Very light peat. Sweet, residual sugary, creamy body, light to medium carbonation. Its ok.
